Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlotte Grey.
Hi Charlotte, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always had a passion for karaoke, entertaining others, and a delight for whimsy. I learned balloon animals in summer camp as a kid, was in choir all of middle and high school, and got into bar trivia during the pandemic via a 3rd party company. Last December I decided that I was unhappy with where my life was currently. My job and the people there don’t align with what I value or want from life. Don’t get me wrong it is a great job and has allowed me to somewhat support myself, but how much of my life can I give a place that I don’t feel completes me? I stumbled into The New Potato on my way home after my company Christmas party in down town, Mentioned that I was a karaoke host and before I knew it was the new Host for TNP. Every Thursday from 10 pm to 2 am you will find me there raising spirits and creating an atmosphere of joy and comradery
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road sometimes doesn’t exist let alone offer smoothness. The reactions I get when cold calling are wild to say the least. Some seem offended I would even offer my services and others are so stuck in complacency that they rather keep the same guy who has been doing it for five years, even though they show no return on investment on those nights. I have had endless phone calls, emails, and meetings with potential clients who are “interested and want it but..” that sometimes I get a little discouraged. That is the reality of starting your own business in any city or field, but I keep trying hoping that they will commit and see how much fun and profit having a karaoke or trivia night with a host who WANTS to be there makes.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a self proclaimed “party plus provider” I can bring you face painting, balloon animals, bar trivia, bingo, singo, and of course karaoke. I thrive in providing karaoke to bars and businesses. I think what sets me apart is my fairness, It is first come first serve always, with the exception of first time singers for the night. Too many times have I gone to a karaoke night in Houston and found the dj’s friends are clogging up the queue or the person who makes it a one man show has 12 songs signed up in a row, these are the experiences that make people leave or discourages then from signing up in the first place. So at my nights I always spread out the queue so that even if Joe signs up for 12 songs you wont hear them back to back, and first time singers of the night go to the top of the list so everyone gets to sing at least one song.
I am proud that my regulars are genuinely so happy to see me every week.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Honestly spread the word, the gospel of Charlotte Grey Entertainment. Tell your favorite bar or venue or restaurant that you love me and want me there. Show them videos from the fun times you’ve had with me. Come talk to The New Potato and get their candid feelings about what I’ve done for their Thursday nights.
I also am always down to be the host for your private parties or company team building parties.
