Rising Stars: Meet Zamar Yauw of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zamar Yauw.

Hi Zamar, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
“I’m Zamar Y.A.U.W., a Bahamian-born singer-songwriter. My sound is really a fusion of island soul with global rhythms like Afrobeats and Amapiano. I moved to Houston, Texas when I was about 10, and that’s where a lot of my identity as an artist really started to take shape.
Growing up, I watched my father, Bernard Pierre Sr., perform as a professional musician, and that had a huge impact on me. Seeing his passion and dedication inspired me to study music and eventually pursue this career for myself.
Now I’m stepping into my own moment with my latest single, “Helicopter,” produced by hitmaker Mr. Hanky out of Atlanta — and it’s all about bringing energy, movement, and that feel-good vibe to the world.”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been been smooth. From being Homeless with my family to losing my father in 2025 to a stroke. Life has always thrown me obstacles to overcome. The Music industry isn’t for the weak.
