Rising Stars: Meet Shawna Eason of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawna Eason.

Hi Shawna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Ashley James Jewelry Design was born out of out my love for jewelry, fashion and art. I can remember at a young age my mother purchasing me a large Amethyst rock piece and I was fascinated. From that point I started collecting crystals. As a preteen I always kept the latest fashion magazines by my bed so I could keep up on the latest trends.

Jewelry making started out as a hobby until my husband Jarrod suggested that I start selling my jewelry. Thus, Ashley James Jewelry Design was born, which is a combination of my daughter and son’s names.

I love working with natural gemstones because of the beauty, symbolism, meaning and healing properties they possess.

I truly believe that jewelry helps uplift the wearer while they are able to also express their personal style. That is why I am passionate about using the highest quality materials to create contemporary and fashionable jewelry.

Jewelry is the finishing touch to every outfit.

Ashley James Jewelry Design is dedicated to creating jewelry that is “fashionably healing”.

I am is also dedicated to helping in my community and for each purchase made 6 meals will be donated to the Houston Food Bank.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road which I think is true for any small business. As a small business owner I wear every hat; CEO, CFO, marketing, designer, social media, website designer and the list goes on. All of that on top of working my 9 to 5. At times it can be very hectic.

It takes a lot of work and consistency to get your name and product out there. I used to do alot of successful vendor shows and pop ups, however I have a major chronic health condition which has made it difficult to keep up with doing shows. I actually had to take a year long hiatus because of my health.

Currently I am focusing more on my website and getting my jewelry into local stores and boutiques. This is the next evolution for my business and I am confident in the next part of my journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I design and create rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces. I design for both men and women with the majority of my designs incorporating genuine semi precious gemstones.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is having my jewelry carried in brick and mortar stores. Everything from boutiques to larger department stores.

Walking down the street seeing people wearing my jewelry would truly be my definition of success.
