Hi Abisinuola, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into event planning started with a feeling long before it became a plan. I’ve always loved weddings and events not from a planning perspective, but just as a witness to something beautiful. The first wedding that ever left a mark on me was attending my family members Nigerian wedding when I was about 10 years old. I didn’t know it then, but it planted something. Through undergrad and grad school, I found myself naturally gravitating toward hosting and creating experiences — organizing annual Galentines Day gatherings for my friends, supporting student event organizers on campus, and even conceptualizing events. I still hesitated though I had this idea that weddings meant chaos. It wasn’t until I moved back to Houston, with some encouragement from a close friend, that I decided to actually test it. I shadowed a real wedding day and that was it. I fell in love with the work. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to coordinate and plan grad parties, corporate events, weddings, and more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge has simply been that this is my first business. Contracts, pricing, vendor relationships, building a brand from the ground up. There wasn’t a roadmap to figure it all out and every event has taught me something. However the struggle never made me want to quit. If anything, it confirmed that this is something I genuinely want because I kept showing up for it anyway.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is how my clients feel. A happy client, a well-executed event, and an experience that felt seamless and full of joy that is what I work toward. Regardless of the event, when someone walks away feeling that way, I know I have done my job well.
