Inspiring Conversations with Oluwatoyin Tinuade Akinterinwa of Tinuadeskitchen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oluwatoyin Tinuade Akinterinwa.

Hi Oluwatoyin Tinuade, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Tinuadeskitchen started in February 2018, right from my apartment kitchen, and was born out of my genuine love for cooking and creating delicious meals for others.

Catering is truly in my blood. I am a third-generation caterer, following in the footsteps of my grandmother and my mother. Interestingly, growing up, I never imagined myself becoming a caterer. I always knew, however, that I would one day become an entrepreneur.

I watched my mum passionately build and run her catering business, and I saw firsthand the dedication, consistency, and excellence she brought to every customer. She is incredibly good at what she does, and her delicious meals and exceptional customer service have earned her opportunities to serve notable men and women in Nigeria.

Looking back, I realize that I may have been born with some of these skills, or perhaps they simply came naturally to me. What started as a small dream in my apartment kitchen has grown into Tinuadeskitchen, a business built on family legacy, passion, great food, excellent service, and the trust of our customers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has not always been smooth. One of the biggest challenges was starting from a small apartment kitchen with limited space and resources. I had to learn how to manage orders, source ingredients, prepare meals, and deliver excellent service while working within a tight discipline space and budget.

Balancing the demands of the business with other responsibilities was also challenging. There were times when I felt overwhelmed, especially when orders increased and I had to meet customers’ expectations consistently. Building trust and establishing the brand also took time, patience, and perseverance.

Despite these struggles, I remained committed to the vision. Each challenge taught me valuable lessons about discipline, planning, customer service, and resilience.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Tinuadeskitchen, we specialize in authentic Nigerian cuisine, party favorites, small chops, rice dishes, soups, proteins, and customized catering orders. We are known for food that is flavorful, beautifully prepared, and made with the kind of care you would expect from a home kitchen. Whether it is a tray of smoky jollof rice, perfectly seasoned proteins, small chops for a celebration, or a full spread for an event, our goal is always to make sure our food tastes as good as it looks.

What sets us apart is the combination of great food, exceptional service and timeliness. At Tinuadeskitcehen, there’s no such thing as “African time”. We understand that when someone trusts us to cater their event, they are trusting us with an important part of their special moment. We take that responsibility seriously. From communication and planning to preparation, presentation, and timely service, we strive to make the entire experience seamless for our customers.

One thing we are especially proud of is how much the brand has grown through word-of-mouth, repeat customers, referrals, and genuine relationships. We did not start with a large commercial kitchen or a huge team. We started small, with limited space and resources, and built Tinuadeskitchen one order and one satisfied customer at a time. Seeing customers come back, recommend us to their family and friends, and trust us with their important celebrations is one of the greatest confirmations that we are doing something right.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One childhood memory that my business has kept alive is the joy of tasting different dishes almost every weekend. Growing up in a family where catering was a big part of our lives, weekends were often filled with cooking and enjoying an incredible variety of food. Those experiences shaped my love for food and introduced me to the joy of having a good meal.

Today, Tinuadeskitchen allows me to recreate that same feeling for my customers, creating flavorful meals, introducing people to different Nigerian dishes, and making food a memorable part of their celebrations and special moments.
