Conversations with Judy Nelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judy Nelson.

Hi Judy , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been someone who loved being active. In high school, I was an athlete and sports were a huge part of my life. Fitness was something I just did without really thinking much about it.

Then I was diagnosed with scoliosis, and my relationship with fitness started to change. I had to learn how to move my body differently, listen to it, and realize that fitness isn’t about being perfect—it’s about finding what works for you.

Then I became a mom… and EVERYTHING changed. 😂

My body changed. My priorities changed. My time definitely changed. And I know what it feels like to look in the mirror and not quite recognize the person looking back at you.

But becoming a mom also made me realize just how much I wanted to help other women.

I became a personal trainer because I want moms to know that they don’t have to choose between being a great mom and taking care of themselves. You can do both.

You can lose the weight without constantly starting over.
You can get stronger.
You can feel confident in your body again.
And you can create healthy habits that actually fit into your life.

That’s really why I do what I do today.

I want to help moms stop chasing quick fixes and finally learn how to make fitness and nutrition a lifestyle they can stick with for good.

Because I’m not just here to help you lose weight.

I want to help you feel GOOD in your body and confident in the woman you see in the mirror again. ❤️

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes, there have definitely been struggles along the way in my career as a personal trainer.

There was a point where I felt like I had finally “made it.” I had more clients than ever, I was making the most money I had ever made, and I truly loved what I was doing.

And then I had my first son.

Shortly after, the door completely shut at the facility I was renting space out of. Just like that, the business I had worked so hard to build was gone.

And honestly… it wrecked me.

At the time, so much of my identity was wrapped up in my work. I was a personal trainer. I was a business owner. I had clients who counted on me. I had built this thing from the ground up—and suddenly I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do next.

I was also a brand-new mom trying to figure out this completely new chapter of my life.

Looking back, I can see that what felt like the biggest setback at the time was actually pushing me toward something bigger.

It forced me to get creative. It forced me to rebuild. And most importantly, it helped me realize that I didn’t just want to train people—I wanted to help women, especially moms, feel like themselves again.

That experience became a huge part of why I do what I do today. Because I know what it feels like to have your identity change, to feel lost, and to wonder if you can find your way back to the woman you used to be.

And now, I get to help other moms do exactly that—just in a different way. ❤️

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I’m known for in my business is helping moms rebuild from the ground up after having a baby.

I’m a postpartum fat loss coach, and my passion goes way beyond just helping women lose weight. I specialize in helping moms rebuild their core, strengthen and support their pelvic floor, and work through diastasis recti so they can feel strong and confident in their bodies again.

Because after having a baby, sometimes it can feel like you’re starting all over. Your body has changed, you may not feel like yourself, and you might not even know where to begin.

That’s where I love stepping in.

I want to help moms rebuild their strength, confidence, and healthy habits in a way that actually fits their life. Yes, we can work toward losing the weight—but I want it to be for good, not another quick fix that leaves you starting over a few months later.

I want you to feel good when you look in the mirror. I want you to feel strong in your body again. And I want to help you set an example for your kids and future generations that taking care of yourself matters too.

Because when a mom starts believing in herself again, it can change so much more than just her body. ❤️

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken in my business was switching from in-person personal training to virtual coaching.

After I had my second baby, I had stepped away from training clients. I knew I wanted to keep going with my career, but I also wanted to be present while my kids were young—and I honestly had no idea how to make both work.

Then COVID hit, and I saw a side of myself I didn’t expect. I fell into some unhealthy habits and felt pretty lost. But during that time, I was given the opportunity to train clients virtually—and that’s when coaching was born.

I had never been active in the online space. It was very different and totally outside my comfort zone. I had to learn how to show up on social media, talk about my offer, and connect with people in a whole new way. But I knew I had to make the change—not just for me, but for the other women who were feeling isolated, discouraged, and disconnected during that time.

I invested in coaches who were already doing this online so I could learn how to build it the right way. That was scary—but taking that leap changed everything.

I started rebranding, growing my business from scratch in a new space, and that’s how my Mom Strong program was born.

Looking back, that risk became the best decision I ever made. Now I get to support other women while still being the mom I want to be.
