Today we’d like to introduce you to Lilith Max.
Hi Lilith, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I first began writing stories when I was nine years old with a little notebook I bought from the Dollar store. Creating new worlds and telling a tale had always been my favorite hobby in school. I once took it so far that I tried to convince my classmates that we were all dragons living in the clouds. Taking a small thread a weaving a tapestry was my greatest passion. Then, I began working as a child actress in LA and drifted further from writing. But at some point, I started taking vocal lessons and felt encouraged to turn my stories into songs. By the time I was fourteen, I realized I didn’t want to be stuck acting other people’s stories. So I moved back to Texas and released my first singles in 2020. Everything changed in 2024, when I released my medieval folk track “Peasant’s Throne”. It began gaining attention on social media and very quickly I was enveloped by a community of fantasy lovers and creatives. With this newfound support, I broadened my world with stories of Greek gods, feminine rage, Germanic folk lore and (of course) dragons. Today, I continue to write these fables and have the honor of singing them on stage for thousands of people across the U.S. and Europe.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Music creation will never be a smooth road. But that’s the excitement of it! There were times where I was ready to quit and pursue a degree in college. There were times when I was almost scammed by people working in the industry. Other times, I received so much hate for my empowerment songs, I feared for my sanity. But although these things were difficult hurdles to overcome, I wouldn’t have it any other way. They are what make me the way I am today. Without the struggle, I wouldn’t have learned that I can overcome it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
For those who may not be familiar with my work, I write, compose, and sing in genres of fantasy, folk, pop, and some rock. Though I found my first success with “Peasant’s Throne”, the one that has garnered the most attention is “Bears & Wolves”, which addresses why women would rather choose a bear over a man.
Since releasing my music, an achievement I didn’t expect was hearing how my music has helped fans voice their thoughts and feel heard. Being able to give them that comfort and empowering them to stand up for themselves has been an honor and pride of mine beyond words.
I’d say the thing that sets me apart from most in my genre is my rooted connection to the stories I tell. Being born in Germany and raised with old folktales and nordic mythologies, I feel that I can connect my culture to my narratives and be a sort of ambassador for those tales. My red hair also doesn’t do harm in portraying my heritage hehe.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is having the ability to create music whenever and wherever I want and knowing in a corner of this planet, someone will want to listen to it. In my case, monetary reward would simply be a means to an end in giving me the opportunity to reach fans and feel our connection face-to-face. There are also many niche projects I’d love to explore in the future that are too much of a risk right now without notoriety or a stability in the music world.
