Today we’d like to introduce you to Mo Dawodu.
Mo, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started with videography and creative projects before photography became the main focus. Early on, I was drawn to creating concepts, experimenting with visuals and finding different ways to bring my ideas to life. I transitioned into Mo Media and started taking on more photography work which heavily included college students and graduates around Houston. Graduation photography quickly became one of the main focuses of Mo Media. It definitely helped with the growth through referrals, social media, and word of mouth.
Today, Mo Media is a Houston-based photography and creative brand that specializes in graduation photography while also offering professional headshots, branding photography, couples and milestone sessions, corporate photography and event coverage. The business has definitely changed a lot from where it started, but being creative has always been at the center of it!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, and I’ve always felt that you get what you put into it. One of the biggest challenges has been the transition from being more about creating to understanding how to run a business. Photography is only one part of what I do. There’s also marketing, client communication, scheduling, editing, customer service, and making sure the overall experience stays consistent. It’s a lot of trial and error to see what works. There are a lot of challenges, especially for the busier seasons, but they’ve pushed me to become more intentional about the business and the type of brand I want to build.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Houston based photographer that specializes in graduation photography, but I also work across branding, professional headshots, events, couples, and other milestone sessions. I’m mostly proud of the content that I push out when it comes to marketing Mo Media as a brand. I try my best to be intentional and truly put my personal mark on it.
What does success mean to you?
My definition of success is being able to grow or progress in any area of your life and be satisfied with that progress. I don’t think success always has to look like a 1000% growth overnight or reaching a huge milestone in a short amount of time. Sometimes success is simply getting 1% better every day, month, or even every year. That Can be creatively, financially, professionally, mentally or personally. What matters is that you can look back and recognize that you’ve moved forward. For me, success is being able to appreciate where I am while still knowing there’s room to improve. As long as I’m continuing to learn, grow and make progress in some way, I consider that success.
