Hi Kemah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Momonomics through my business, Harmon Polish, after attending several women’s empowerment events. While I enjoyed those spaces, I noticed that many of them focused heavily on motivation and inspiration, but there were fewer opportunities to walk away with tangible resources that women could immediately apply to their lives.
I also kept hearing conversations about building generational wealth and creating better opportunities for the next generation. As a single mother, that made me think about the women who are trying to do exactly that while navigating the additional responsibilities that come with raising children on their own. I felt there was a gap in resources specifically designed with single mothers in mind.
That realization led me to draft the concept for my first Momonomics event: a brunch specifically for single mothers. I wanted it to combine inspiration with practical information, so we discussed topics like budgeting on a single income, building credit for your children, and financial planning, while also hearing from a single mother who could share her personal journey.
I was able to leverage the relationships and experience I had built through my corporate career in investment management, along with the network I had developed through Harmon Polish, to bring the concept to life. Our first brunch was sponsored by Chase, and the response was incredible.
That first event showed me there was a real need for this type of space. From there, Momonomics grew into additional events, partnerships, and resources centered around a simple belief: single mothers deserve more than encouragement. We deserve to be seen, celebrated, and given tangible resources designed specifically for the lives we are navigating.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been helping people understand just how much single mothers carry and how vital we are to building the next generation. We are raising children while also navigating careers, relationships, finances, and, for some of us, continuing our education.
One of the lessons this journey has reinforced for me is that single mothers are not superwomen—we are human. We have emotions, we get tired, and sometimes we need help too. That is why community is so important.
I want to encourage people to genuinely check on the single mothers in their lives and, when possible, be an extra helping hand. Sometimes support can be as simple as finding a way to make her day a little less stressful. I have also learned how important it is for single mothers to have positive communities that truly pour into us rather than constantly requiring us to pour from ourselves. That sense of community and support is a major part of what I hope to continue building through Momonomics.
As you know, we’re big fans of Momonomics. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Momonomics is an initiative under Harmon Polish created to support, empower, and celebrate single mothers. We focus on providing practical resources and experiences that address the whole woman, not just motherhood. Our programming covers areas such as financial literacy, mental health and wellness, professional development, community building, and recreational activities.
What sets Momonomics apart is that we are intentional about creating experiences where single mothers do not feel like a statistic or a group that needs to be “saved.” We recognize them as ambitious, capable women who are raising the next generation while also building careers, pursuing education, managing households, and working toward their own goals. Our role is to help make that journey a little easier by providing resources, access, and a positive community that pours back into them.
I am most proud of the community we are building. Receiving a proclamation from Harris County recognizing our work was an incredible honor, but the messages from mothers who tell me they left a Momonomics event feeling seen, heard, celebrated, and equipped with tangible information mean the most to me.
Ultimately, I want people to know that Momonomics is about more than single motherhood, t is about creating generational impact by investing in the women who are helping build the next generation.
