Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Sanchez.
Hi Danny, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Orange County, California before relocating with my family to Texas at the age of 7. From a young age, I developed a fascination with design and art—an interest deeply inspired by my grandmother, a talented seamstress who worked for a production company. She regularly altered garments for clients, crocheted dresses for young girls, and created clothing for her own children, and that truly left a lasting impression on me.
Throughout middle and high school, my passion for art continued to grow, gradually evolving into an interest in fashion. After graduating high school, I enrolled in two colleges but ultimately stepped away from both to take personal time and truly find what I was passionate about.
Eventually, I found my calling and applied to The Art Institute of Houston, pursuing a degree in fashion design. With faith and determination, I was accepted into the program, where I refined my craft and further developed my unique identity as a designer. Driven by the lack of variety in men’s fashion, I have committed myself to creating pieces for menswear, seeking to redefine modern style.
“I’ve always wanted to challenge myself. Taking this leap of faith was daunting, especially with my dyslexia—something I was diagnosed with at an early age. But the ability to push past limitations and find innovative ways to learn and create is what continues to fuel my passion.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Right before COVID hit, I had finally secured a few spots to showcase a brand-new collection I had poured everything into. Then, almost overnight, every opportunity disappeared. Shows were cancelled, budgets were cut and all of the momentum I had built just stopped. As an independent fashion designer, I don’t have a team of tailors or seamstresses behind me- it’s just me, self-funding every fabric, every sample, every stitch and every photoshoot. When those fell through, it wasn’t just disappointing; it was financially and emotionally heavy. I had to rebuild from scratch, keep creating and keep believing in my vision even when the circumstances made it incredibly challenging. That experience taught me resilience, resourcefulness and how to push forward no matter how tough the road gets.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in menswear, with a strong focus on resort wear, lounge wear and select couture pieces. I’m known for my vibrant use of color, the way I style and direct my photoshoots and the signature fit of my garments- clean, intentional and deigned to move with the client. One of the things I’m most proud of is being able to consistently create, show and sell new collections across multiple social media platforms and through my website. Building that presence independently has allowed me to connect with clients around the world and keep my brand evolving.
What sets me apart comes down to two things. First, I have dyslexia. While it means I sometimes need a few extra passes to get something exactly right, it also forces me to slow down and pay deeper attention to details that others might overlook. It’s made me extremely intentional about both the fit of a garment and how comfortably a client can move in it as well. Second, I’m an independent fashion designer who self-funds everything. Without a team of tailors or seamstresses, every piece is truly hands-on. That independence has taught me to appreciate the process, take my time with each collection and only launch when I know the work is ready for both current and future clients.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was this funny mix of introvert and extrovert into one kid. On the quiet side, I could spend hours buried in Harry Potter books, coloring anything I could find or glued to my Game Boy playing Pokémon like it was a full-time job. But the extroverted part of me? That’s were things got entertaining. I was the kid staying up late with friends, getting into harmless trouble, and yes- coloring on the walls like they were my personal art gallery, I loved wrestling, video games and anything that let me be loud, expressive and a little mischievous.
People always assumed I was introverted when they first met me and I still say this today: I’m introverted but my spirit is very extroverted. That mix made me curious, creative, and surprisingly social. It helped me build friendships that lasted and it shaped the way I see the world- a balance of imagination, boldness and quiet focus that still shows up in my work as a designer.
