Life & Work with Vanessa Flores of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Flores.

Hi Vanessa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have been a cosmetologist for about 5 years now but it wasn’t until 3 years ago I decided to leave my salon commission job to start my own salon/business.
It was something I always wanted to do and thankfully have been thriving at. It was then that VeeHairRoom really started to glow and grow.
I’ve grown from renting a small salon suite to a larger location. Started my own extensions line VeeHairCo. And to even expanding to hiring assistants. It’s been a bit of a challenge learning to be a boss and owner but I’ve been loving the growth and journey.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When it came to thinking about being someone’s boss, it really scared me. It has definitely been a learning process but can proudly say there are great improvements. Being able to share my knowledge and skills with someone is something I really feel proud of. Because it was such a big part of my journey growing as a stylist myself, having someone teach me and helping me. Just so glad I have reached this point of my career to help others as well.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Salon owner / hairstylist, my salon name is VeeHairRoom. I specialize in blonding, lived in looks, balayage and hair extensions.
Being a hairstylist and after learning so many different techniques, I learned I had a huge passion for hair extensions. I love how applying extensions on clients made them feel so beautiful. So I wanted to search for the best product to provide for my clients , which gave me the drive to start the process of creating a hair extension line. After multiple meetings, trial and errors and educational courses I was able to finally create a line for current/future clients.

VeeHairCo was created and still growing , seeing me reach such goals has made me so proud. Also so excited about what else is to come.

How do you define success?
It’s growing VeeHairRoom and being proud of what I’ve created , but it’s not just money or being busy. It’s having freedom, peace, purpose and something that is truly mine.
It’s being able to look around and know:
My marriage is strong, my family knows I love them, my business is thriving, I’m becoming a better version of myself.

I define success less as “i made it” and more as
I built the life I once prayed for, without losing myself or the people I love along the way.
