Inspiring Conversations with Edgar Valdez of MAX-WELL PERFORMANCE & TRAINING

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar Valdez.

Hi Edgar, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Working as an Occupational Therapist, I quickly recognized opportunities to move beyond traditional training approaches that often prioritize muscle growth over function, performance, and longevity.

After treating more than 100 patients experiencing physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges through exercise, specialized equipment, and fine-motor conditioning, I was inspired to combine my knowledge of therapy with my passion for fitness and performance. From that vision, the Max-Well Method was developed.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I took over the Max-Well gym space in 2023, I knew very little about business or entrepreneurship. There was no established business model, pricing structure, or strategic plan. What I did have was a strong belief that if I invested my time, energy, and resources into the Max-Well experience, our community would take notice.

Initially, we lost 20% of our members, followed by another 10%, as we were unable to close the gym for renovations. During this time, Max-Well consisted of just three employees: Andy, Tien, and myself. We poured ourselves into the gym and our clients around the clock, seven days a week, sacrificing valuable family time, personal time, and sleep to build Max-Well into what it is today. I am forever grateful for them.

Three years later, I am proud to announce that Max-Well Performance and Training will become Houston’s first 24/7 commercial gym and golf compound, featuring a Trackman Golf Simulator, dry sauna, showers, turf area, and more. Coming soon – Fall 2026.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Max-Well Method is our proprietary approach to help you reduce pain, improve mobility, and lower injury risk. This method combines 45 minutes of training followed by 15 minutes of hands-on manual therapy so your body can work for you, instead of against you.

What’s next?
Heading into the fall, we’re excited to be doubling the size of our facility and adding new amenities, including a golf simulator, dry sauna, and additional commercial equipment. Our goal is to provide our community a gym that is welcoming and convenient.
