Today we’d like to introduce you to Chiquita Murrell.
Hi Chiquita, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story has never followed one straight path. I’ve always been a creative woman who expresses herself through modeling, acting, singing, dancing, entrepreneurship, and visual storytelling. For a long time, I thought I had to choose one identity, but I eventually realized that being multidimensional is one of my greatest strengths.
That realization led me to embrace “The Artist Chiquita.” That’s the model, muse, performer, creator, and entrepreneur. I also turned my creativity into a business through Nina’s Chiqs Waistbeads, my handmade waistbead brand. What began with beads grew into a meaningful way to celebrate femininity, confidence, culture, spirituality, and self expression.
Getting to where I am today has required self discovery, trusting my vision, and giving myself permission to evolve. Today, I’m building a world where all my gifts can coexist. Everything I create comes from the same desire: to help women feel seen, inspired, expressive, and beautiful. I feel like my story is still unfolding.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges was feeling pressured to choose only one path when I knew I had many gifts. For a while, I questioned whether being multidimensional made me unfocused. I sometimes allowed self doubt and the opinions of others to keep me from fully embracing everything I was capable of.
I’ve also had to balance creativity, entrepreneurship, family, and the unexpected demands of life, often while still showing up and creating. Building something of your own requires consistency, even during seasons when inspiration, resources, or support may be limited.
Along the way, I’ve learned to trust my vision, give myself permission to evolve, and stop waiting for outside validation. The obstacles have not disappeared, yet I now understand that every challenge has helped me become more confident, resourceful, and intentional about the woman and creative I am becoming.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work lives at the intersection of art, beauty, culture, and self expression. I am a model, actress, content creator, real estate agent, and the owner of Nina’s Chiqs Waistbeads. I have also had several skits go viral, allowing my personality and talent to reach audiences far beyond what I initially imagined.
I am especially proud of Nina’s Chiqs Waistbeads because I have created more than a product. My handmade waist beads help women celebrate their bodies, femininity, culture, spirituality, and personal journeys.
What sets me apart is my versatility. I can bring humor to a skit, confidence to a photoshoot, intention to my waist beads, and professionalism to real estate. I can be the muse, create the concept, tell the story, and bring the entire vision to life.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice is to start before you feel completely ready. You do not need everything figured out, and you do not need permission to believe in your own vision. Be willing to learn, stay consistent, and allow yourself to grow publicly without being embarrassed by your beginning.
I wish I had known sooner that I did not have to choose only one talent or follow someone else’s timeline. Your path may not look traditional, but that does not make it less valuable. Trust what makes you different, protect your creativity, and remember that confidence often comes after you begin, not before.
