Hi Fadia , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My Story
I am a mother of three beautiful children, and my journey as an artist began with something very simple: my love for drawing and creating art. For many years, art was a hobby that I enjoyed while raising my children. As my children grew older and started university, I finally had more time to dedicate to something that had always been close to my heart.
I studied Fine Art at Lebanese University as an attending student, and I continued developing my skills through different courses, including ceramics and abstract painting at the Museum Art School in Boca Raton, Florida.
Over the years, my passion for art opened the door to many wonderful experiences. I have participated in art symposiums, art fairs, and exhibitions both nationally and internationally in countries including Lebanon,USA,Malaysia,Cyprus,Geneva,Greece, India, Korea, China, Romania, Egypt, Yemen, Tunisia, Oman, Turkey, and France. Each place introduced me to different cultures, artists, colors, and ways of seeing the world, and these experiences became an important part of my artistic journey.
One of the experiences I am especially proud of was representing my country at the United Nations Palace in Geneva. Being able to share my art in an international setting was a very meaningful moment for me.
Today, I am based in Houston, where I continue to grow as an artist and explore different forms of creativity, including painting, abstract art, ceramics, and murals. Art is more than a hobby to me now—it is my passion, my way of expressing myself, and a way of connecting with people and cultures.
Looking back, I am grateful that something that started as a hobby while raising my children became such an important part of my life. I believe it is never too late to follow your passion and give yourself the opportunity to grow.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not always been a smooth road. It has been a long journey, with many challenges along the way. I have had the opportunity to participate in exhibitions and symposiums in many countries, but I am still working toward some of my biggest goals, including having the opportunity to display my work in a museum.
One of the challenges today is that the art world has changed so much with social media and digital platforms. I am an artist at heart, and I feel much more comfortable creating art than promoting myself online. Sometimes I feel that artists who are very active on social media have more visibility, while artists like me, who focus more on the work itself, can be harder to discover.
But I don’t see this as a reason to give up. I am still learning, creating, and looking for new opportunities. I believe that good art takes time, and I am proud of the journey I have taken so far. I hope to continue growing and eventually see my work displayed in a museum.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work is very diverse because I love exploring different materials and techniques. I create hand-built ceramics and work with different painting methods, including oil, acrylic, alcohol ink, and resin. I enjoy experimenting and allowing each material to guide me in a different direction.
For me, a canvas is much more than a surface to paint on. It is where I put my feelings and emotions. When I am creating, I feel like I am entering my own world. I don’t always begin with a specific idea of how a piece will look. Sometimes I let the colors, shapes, textures, and materials guide me, and the artwork develops naturally.
I think what sets me apart is my willingness to explore and not limit myself to one medium or one style. I am always learning and discovering new ways to express myself. My international experiences and exposure to different cultures have also influenced the way I see art.
I am also very proud to be an art teacher. Sharing my love of art with children is incredibly rewarding. One of my favorite moments is seeing a student create something beautiful and realizing that I helped them discover their own creativity. For me, being an artist is not only about creating my own work—it is also about inspiring others to create.
How do you define success?
For me, success is not only about being famous or having my work displayed in a museum. Success is being able to continue doing what I love, growing as an artist, and having the freedom to express my feelings and ideas through my art.
I feel successful when I create something that comes from my heart, when my artwork connects with someone, or when I see one of my students discover their own creativity. I am also proud of the journey I have taken—from being a mother who started art as a hobby to becoming an artist who has participated in exhibitions and symposiums in different parts of the world.
I still have goals I want to achieve, but I believe success is also appreciating how far you have already come while continuing to follow your dreams.
