Hi Armourie., can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Everything I do begins with giving glory to God (Yahweh) and Yeshua. I truly believe every gift, opportunity, and vision I’ve been able to operate in has been from Him. My story, my career, and my existence has been a reflection of His guidance every step of the way.
For starters, I’m a proud Houston native, born and raised. A graduate of North Shore Senior High School and was blessed to receive a track scholarship to Southern University and A&M College. While I initially arrived as a student-athlete, I quickly discovered another passion that would shape the rest of my life, Mass Communications. In Fall 2012 I switched my major over from Criminal Justice to Mass Communications with a concentration in Broadcasting, and I absolutely fell in love with every aspect of Mass Comm! I can definitely say that college never felt like something I had to do, it was something I genuinely enjoyed. Every class, every production, every opportunity and even the failed assignments allowed me to sharpen my craft while confirming that I was exactly where I envisioned myself being ever since I was a little girl.
During my time at Southern University, I had the opportunity to intern at WAFB News in Baton Rouge, interview artists like K Camp and Wale during Homecoming, contribute to NBC’s feature on the world-renowned Human Jukebox, and co-host alongside Levester “LV” Hughes on Turnt Up on the Yard. That experience behind the microphone was a defining moment for me. It wasn’t just about talking on the radio, it was about creating conversations that connected people, and I knew I had found something I was meant to do.
I graduated as the Student Marshal for the Department of Mass Communications and was eager to begin my professional career. Not going to lie, I was on the struggle bus when I first graduated, not knowing what I was going to do, I had no job offers at the time and I just felt stuck. Luckily after a long 6 months lol, I started by volunteering as a traffic and weather co-host for a local AM radio station while simultaneously managing social media for a tax and insurance company. Shortly after, I joined two incredible women to form the radio show Triple Threat, where I continued developing my voice as an on-air personality.
That journey eventually led me to Stafford METV, where I served as an on-air Talent and Production Specialist for nearly five years. It was an incredible experience that strengthened my skills both on camera and behind the scenes. But after a few years, I began feeling a deeper calling, like a tug on my heart to build something of my own.
Taking that leap of faith wasn’t easy, but it led me to first launch La’Marie Media, a media company specializing in production, hosting, and storytelling. Through that business, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with organizations and brands including March of Dimes, Shell USA, Creators Guild HTX, Fashion League Styles, and many other incredible companies and community leaders.
Fast track to Fall of 2025, one of the most meaningful full-circle moments in my career came when Southern University acquired WSUB 106.1 LPFM. Dr. Professor Campbell invited me to return not as a student this time, but as a radio host. It couldn’t have come at a better time because I had been praying for an opportunity to give back to the university that helped shape me.
That opportunity inspired me to create From Tha Yard, a platform dedicated to celebrating the stories, journeys, and legacies of Southern University Alumni. I’ve always believed that everyone has a story worth telling, and Don Wells said it best: “There is a story inside everyone waiting to be told.”
Today, that’s exactly what I get to do. I have the privilege of sitting across from remarkable people, creating meaningful conversations, and preserving stories that will inspire generations to come. Looking back, it’s amazing to realize that the same university where I first discovered my voice is now the university that gave me an opportunity to expand my voice! That’s a full-circle moment I’ll never take for granted.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any meaningful journey, mine has come with its share of challenges. I’ve learned that the obstacles aren’t there to stop you, they’re there to prepare you.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve had to learn as an entrepreneur is that passion alone isn’t enough. Early on, I didn’t fully understand the importance of building systems, creating processes, and operating a business with structure. As my platforms and client base began to grow, I realized those systems were something that was beyond necessary for me to have and just with learning that, has completely changed the way I approach my business.
Personally, one of my greatest challenges has been overcoming perfectionism. I used to believe everything had to be perfect before it could be shared with the world. That mindset can quietly become a form of procrastination, and before you know it, you’ve spent so much time waiting for the perfect time, the perfect logo, the right moment and next thing you know, you’ve missed out on an opportunity.
Today, I’m intentionally learning to trust the process instead of trying to control every outcome. Growth requires faith, consistency, and the willingness to keep showing up even when everything isn’t polished. Ironically, some of my greatest opportunities have come from moments when I simply chose to move despite feeling unprepared.
Best believe I’m still growing, learning, and still refining my craft, but I’ve realized that progress will always outperform perfection.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At my core, I’m a creative who is a thriving media personality. I absolutely have a passion for storytelling and I specialize in creating meaningful conversations that allow people to feel seen, heard, and understood. Whether I’m hosting a live event, conducting an interview, or producing content behind the scenes, my goal is always the same, to create an authentic experience and provide avenues where stories can be shared in a way that genuinely impacts people.
When I think about my “why,” I always come back to empowering others; especially women to truly embrace the light they’ve been given and confidently walk in their purpose. I believe stories have the power to inspire, heal, and open doors for someone else, which is why I take every interview and every conversation seriously.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of interviewing and collaborating with professional NBA and NFL athletes, actors, actresses, political leaders, entrepreneurs, influencers, and community change makers. Every conversation has reinforced my belief that influence isn’t measured by popularity but by impact.
One of the accomplishments I’m most proud of is creating platforms that give others an opportunity to share their stories. Whether it’s through La’Marie Media, From The Script, Line of Glory or From Tha Yard, I’ve intentionally built spaces where conversations inspire, educate, and preserve legacy. Seeing someone leave an interview feeling valued and knowing their story may encourage someone they’ve never met is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
What truly sets me apart is simply being Armourie.
No one can duplicate my perspective, my taste, my energy, or the way I connect with people. I naturally build trust, create genuine relationships, and make people feel comfortable enough to share the parts of their story that matter most. I don’t just ask questions,I listen with intention. I believe that’s what transforms an interview into a meaningful conversation, and it’s the reason people continue trusting me with their stories.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
“I’ve learned that some of the greatest blessings in life are found on the other side of obedience.” – Armourie.
One of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken was walking away from a career that most people would have considered stable and secure. I was working as an on air talent and production specialist, I had a steady paycheck, I loved the community I served, and from the outside looking in, everything seemed to be going exactly as planned. But internally, I knew God was calling me to something greater.
The funny part is, I didn’t want to leave, lol. I spent well over a year wrestling with that decision because I loved it there. I kept trying to convince myself, all the time to just stick it out and something great was around the corner. Eventually, God made the situation so uncomfortable that staying became harder than leaving. Looking back now, I realized He wasn’t pushing me out to punish me, He was truly pushing me into purpose.
That leap of faith led me to launch La’Marie Media and fully embrace entrepreneurship. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work with incredible organizations like March of Dimes, Shell USA, Creators Guild HTX, and many other amazing brands, businesses, and community partners. More importantly, I’ve been able to build platforms that align with my purpose instead of simply working a job.
Risk, to me, isn’t about being fearless. It’s about having enough faith to move forward even when you don’t have all the answers.
If I had chosen comfort over calling, From Tha Yard wouldn’t exist. Many of the interviews I’ve had the privilege of conducting wouldn’t have happened, and I wouldn’t be walking in the purpose God had prepared for me. Fast forward to now, it truly feels amazing to create and navigate spaces as a media personality, curating conversations and experiences for people to remember.
Taking that risk changed my life, and I’m only getting started.
