Conversations with Martina Goudeau

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martina Goudeau.

Hi Martina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My Journey in Dermatology & Aesthetics

My journey in healthcare began in 2002 when I obtained my Medical Assistant certification. I knew early on that I wanted a career where I could help others, but I had no idea at the time that I would eventually discover such a deep passion for dermatology, aesthetics, and the science of skin.

Shortly after beginning my career, I transitioned into medical dermatology, where I began building my foundation in medical and surgical skin care. Working alongside dermatology professionals gave me the opportunity to learn firsthand about various skin conditions, treatments, procedures, and the importance of providing compassionate, individualized patient care.

It didn’t take long for me to realize that I was fascinated by the skin. What began as a position in healthcare ultimately became the foundation for a career that has continued to evolve for more than two decades.

As my knowledge of medical dermatology grew, I was introduced to the cosmetic and aesthetic side of the specialty. I began learning about facial treatments, laser technology, medical-grade skin care, and advanced aesthetic procedures. I loved being able to combine my medical dermatology background with treatments that could not only improve the health and appearance of a patient’s skin but also help restore their confidence.
That passion inspired me to further my education at the Aveda Institute, where I completed my Esthiology training and obtained my Esthetician license. I later attended the Texas Laser Institute, expanding my education in laser hair removal, microneedling, microdermabrasion, and laser safety.
As technology within the aesthetic industry continued to advance, so did my desire to learn. I attended CoolSculpting University, where I received specialized training in nonsurgical fat reduction. Over the years, I gained hands-on experience with a wide range of advanced aesthetic technologies and treatments, including CoolSculpting, Ultherapy, Thermage, EON, laser hair removal, vascular and pigment treatments, skin rejuvenation procedures, microneedling, chemical peels, and advanced facial treatments.

Throughout my career, I have also had the privilege of working alongside some of Houston’s highly respected board-certified dermatologists. These experiences allowed me to develop extensive knowledge in both medical and cosmetic dermatology and gain exposure to advanced dermatological treatments, including Photodynamic Therapy and the XTRAC Excimer Laser.

Working in dermatology for so many years has taught me that treating the skin is never one-size-fits-all. Every patient’s skin, lifestyle, concerns, goals, and treatment history are different. This is especially important when treating diverse skin tones, where understanding how different skin types respond to lasers, exfoliation, active ingredients, and other aesthetic procedures is essential to providing safe and effective care.

Medical-grade skin care has also become an important part of my expertise. Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with medical grade skin care lines including Hydrinity, Revision Skincare, SkinCeuticals, SkinMedica, Skinbetter Science, and others. I enjoy educating my patients about their skin and creating customized home care regimens that complement their professional treatments. My goal is never simply to sell a product or perform a procedure, it is to understand what each patient’s skin truly needs and create a realistic plan that helps them achieve and maintain healthy skin.

My career eventually expanded beyond patient care into leadership and practice management. I became an Aesthetic Office Manager and Lead Medical Aesthetician in the Houston Museum District, where I gained valuable experience in the business and operational side of aesthetics while continuing to build my clientele. I learned about patient retention, inventory, treatment planning, team development, practice growth, customer service, and the importance of creating an exceptional patient experience from beginning to end.

During this chapter of my career, I also began building my presence on social media. Through Instagram and TikTok, I discovered another way to educate people about skin health, aesthetic treatments, lasers, and professional skin care while allowing my personality and passion for this industry to shine through.

My journey eventually brought me to the Houston Heights area, where I have continued working alongside board-certified dermatologists and providing advanced medical aesthetic and laser services. Even after more than two decades in dermatology, I remain committed to continuing education. Aesthetic medicine is constantly evolving, and I believe that being a knowledgeable provider means never becoming complacent. There is always something new to learn.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Looking back, I can confidently say that my journey has not always been easy or smooth.
There have been highs and lows throughout my career, but each experience has taught me something valuable. I have learned to embrace change, remain patient during difficult seasons, and recognize that challenges often create opportunities for growth.
Most importantly, I have learned never to stop learning and never to give up on something I genuinely believe in.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Licensed Medical Aesthetician, Licensed Laser Professional, and Registered Medical Assistant with over 23 years of experience in the field of Dermatology. Throughout my career, I have specialized in performing laser hair removal and a wide range of advanced aesthetic treatments for patients of all skin types, with a particular passion and expertise in treating skin of color.

What sets me apart is the depth of my clinical experience and comprehensive knowledge of both medical and cosmetic dermatology. Over the past two decades, I have had the privilege of working alongside some of Houston’s most respected board-certified dermatologists, where I have developed extensive expertise in advanced laser technologies, aesthetic procedures, and medical-grade skincare.

I am highly knowledgeable in professional skincare and have experience recommending and educating patients on customized treatment regimens using medical-grade skincare products to address concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, melasma, rosacea, aging skin, sensitive skin, and overall skin health. I believe that successful outcomes are achieved through a combination of in-office treatments and personalized at-home skincare plans designed to meet each patient’s unique needs.

My passion extends beyond performing treatments. I am committed to educating my patients, building lasting relationships, and providing safe, ethical, and results driven care. My goal is to help every patient achieve healthier, more radiant skin while delivering personalized treatment plans with the highest standards of professionalism, compassion, and clinical excellence.

I am incredibly proud of how far I have come, but what means the most to me is the trust my patients place in me and the opportunity to help them feel confident in their skin. For me, aesthetics has always been about more than beauty, it is about education, intention, and helping people feel their best. What began as a career has truly become a passion and a purpose, and I am excited to see where this journey continues to take me.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that may surprise most people about me is that I have a deep appreciation for theater and the performing arts. Outside of dermatology, I enjoy attending live Broadway productions, musicals, and theatrical performances. I love the creativity, storytelling, and artistry that each performance brings, and I find it to be a wonderful way to relax, recharge, and find inspiration outside of my professional life.
