Hi Ladyy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey with music started long before I ever considered myself an artist. I was born and raised in Rochester, New York.At just 12 years old, I began writing poetry. Poetry gave me a safe space to express emotions, experiences, and thoughts that I didn’t always know how to say out loud. Music has always been apart of my family. My uncles, cousins and my older brother would rap together and create sponges. My Uncle had a studio in his basement , I would always hear them creating music and that was apart of my inspiration.By the time I was 16, I had naturally transitioned from poetry into writing songs, and that’s when I realized music was more than just a hobby—it was my passion and my voice. My first ever performance was when I was 16 , I’ve been sharing my talent with the world since.
As I continued growing, so did my love for songwriting and storytelling. Music became a way for me to be heard, connect with others, and turn pieces of my life into something meaningful. Every experience, challenge, emotion, and lesson has influenced the person and artist I am today.
Now, at 26, I’m still pursuing that same passion that started when I was a 12-year-old girl writing poetry. My journey has taught me that your story has power, and sometimes the best way to tell it is through music. I’m continuing to grow, evolve, and find my sound while staying true to the reason I started in the first place: to express myself, tell my story, and hopefully inspire someone else to tell theirs too.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it hasn’t been a smooth road. In 2018 I started in a girl group (rap duo) we rapped for 5 years together until we split and the betrayal that came from that was hurtful. After my brother was murdered in 2022 I felt I lost everything and had to start over. He played a big part in me creating music so losing him was one of the hardest chapters of my life , I had to regain my spark and strength . Me getting a distribution deal through a label after going solo brung that excitement back . I relocated to Houston, Texas to chase my dreams. I am still fully independent, I feel like everyone left at the right time. some things are a blessing in disguise.
having a team it gets tough because I’m doing everything alone even financially. Trying to focus on your personal life and your music career can be tough as an independent artist because sometimes you have to pick and choose even when you don’t want to. My main goal is to succeed in this music . This come up is very personal.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a rising artist , I am very versatile with my music. I write hip hop, soca , R&B and pop music. Honestly i can write a song to any beat. I’m known for my lyrics (pen game) , punch lines and being humble. I am proud of myself for being resilient and never giving up . What sets me apart is I’m going to wait my turn while cheering others on . I believe in God and what he has for me. I hear all the time from different people that I’m a “superstar” to some it may be a simple word or phrase but to me it’s confirmation on where I’m going. I have performed at so many places. I performed in Atlanta, I had a mini tour in Ohio, I also performed in California and more.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am very shy or antisocial. I’m a cancer so sometimes I get in hermit mode. When performing or in artist mode that’s a different side of me . Being Ladyy Polo brings me so much confidence.
