Exploring Life & Business with Souvik Dasgupta of SORA Platforms, Inc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Souvik Dasgupta.

Hi Souvik, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story has always been rooted in hospitality, entrepreneurship, and a curiosity about how great experiences can be made better through thoughtful systems and technology.

My global experience spanning more than 15 years as a bar and beverage consultant has given me the opportunity to work closely with hospitality businesses, operators, and venues around the world. Through this work, I gained firsthand insight into both sides of the industry: the guest experience that people see and the operational challenges taking place behind the scenes. It shaped my approach to business and innovation—the best ideas are not only exciting; they must solve a genuine problem, elevate the experience, and deliver commercial value.

That perspective ultimately led my partners Dr Steve Sacks, Landell Mayho, and me to build **SORA Platforms**, a Houston-based beverage technology company focused on creating AI infrastructure and solutions for modern beverage commerce through three connected businesses: **Perfect Pour**, our autonomous smart vending platform; **Pour AI and ARIA**, our AI-powered intelligence, alcohol native LLM and compliance layer; and **easySIP**, our compliance-native alcohol delivery aggregator platform.

What started as an idea around improving beverage service has evolved into a much larger vision around automation, artificial intelligence, hospitality, and commerce. Today, my focus is on building the technology, partnerships, team, and foundation required to take that vision from Houston into major venues and markets across the country, with a long-term path toward global expansion.

It has definitely been an evolution rather than a straight line. Every hospitality project, operational challenge, relationship, and lesson along the way has contributed to where I am today. I still approach the company with the same mindset I started with: identify a genuine problem, build something meaningful around it, provide convenience, stay customer-obsessed, and keep moving forward.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road at all; that’s why I think some of the biggest challenges are also what created the opportunity.

Hospitality is going through a significant transition. Operators today are dealing with rising labor and operating costs, staffing shortages, tighter margins, increasing compliance requirements, and the constant pressure to deliver a better guest experience without simply adding more people or complexity to the operation.

At the same time, **customer behavior has changed dramatically**. Consumers have become accustomed to speed, convenience, personalization, and digital-first experiences in almost every part of their lives. They can order transportation, food, groceries, or virtually anything else from their phones within seconds, and increasingly they expect hospitality to offer that same level of simplicity and responsiveness.

The challenge is that hospitality cannot lose the human element that makes it special. I don’t believe technology should replace hospitality; I believe it should remove friction from it.

That philosophy has influenced how we are building **SORA Platforms**. We see AI, automation, and intelligent systems as tools that can help operators make better decisions, improve efficiency, strengthen responsible alcohol service and compliance, understand consumer behavior, and create more seamless experiences for guests.

Of course, building technology at the intersection of hospitality, alcohol commerce, AI, and regulation comes with its own challenges. You have to think beyond whether something *can* be built and ask whether it can operate safely, responsibly, reliably, and at scale.

For me, embracing those challenges has been an important part of the journey. The hospitality industry is evolving, and I believe the companies that will succeed are the ones that preserve what people love about hospitality while intelligently embracing the technology that can make the overall experience better.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The name of our company is **SORA Platforms, Inc.**, a Houston-based technology company building AI infrastructure and solutions for the future of beverage commerce and hospitality.

At its core, SORA was created around a simple question: **How can we use technology to make hospitality more efficient, intelligent, and convenient without losing the human experience that makes hospitality special?**

We are building an interconnected ecosystem through three businesses: **Perfect Pour**, our autonomous beverage vending platform; **Pour AI & ARIA**, our AI-powered intelligence, alcohol-native LLM, and compliance layer; and **easySIP**, our compliance-native alcohol delivery aggregator.

What sets us apart is that we don’t look at automation, artificial intelligence, compliance, and the guest experience as separate problems. We are building them as parts of one connected infrastructure.

**Perfect Pour** is designed for high-volume environments such as stadiums, arenas, airports, convention centers, hotels, and entertainment destinations, helping operators serve beverages more efficiently while reducing traditional points of friction.

**Pour AI and ARIA** provide the intelligence layer—helping operators better understand transactions, consumer behavior, operational performance, compliance, and responsible alcohol service. Supporting that ecosystem is **ASK ARIA**, our alcohol-native LLM designed to deliver specialized insights, guidance, and decision support for the unique complexities of beverage commerce.

**easySIP** extends that infrastructure directly to consumers through a delivery-first experience, making beverage discovery, ordering, and delivery more seamless wherever they are.

One thing I am especially proud of is that we are building SORA from **Houston**. It is an incredibly diverse and entrepreneurial city with a strong hospitality culture and an appetite for innovation, making it an ideal place to develop technology that can eventually scale into major markets.

Brand-wise, I want SORA to represent something much bigger than a vending machine or an AI product. We are working toward becoming an **intelligent alcohol commerce infrastructure and solutions company** that brings together hospitality, automation, AI, consumer experience, and responsible commerce.

Ultimately, our goal isn’t to remove people from hospitality. It is to use technology to remove friction and complexity behind the scenes so operators can build stronger businesses and guests can have better experiences.

That intersection between **technology and hospitality** is where I believe the next generation of the industry is being built—and where we want SORA Platforms to play a meaningful role.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like most about Houston is that it feels like a city that is still being built. There is an entrepreneurial energy here and a sense that if you have an idea and are willing to put the work behind it, there is room to create something meaningful.

Houston is one of the country’s most diverse cities, and you experience that through its food, hospitality, culture, and people. Coming from hospitality, I appreciate that enormously. The city feels internationally connected while still distinctly Texan.

More broadly, I think this is an incredibly interesting time to be building a company in **Texas**. We are seeing significant investment, corporate relocations, population growth, and new businesses coming into the state. Austin has established itself as a major technology and startup hub, while Dallas–Fort Worth continues to attract corporate and financial investment, and Houston brings extraordinary strength across energy, healthcare, aerospace, manufacturing, hospitality, and increasingly technology.

That combination makes Texas more than a lower-cost alternative to coastal business centers—it is building its own ecosystem of capital, talent, technology, entrepreneurship, and industry.

For us, that is part of the reason building **SORA Platforms in Houston** makes so much sense. We can develop technology here while being surrounded by major industries, world-class institutions, a huge consumer market, and an increasingly sophisticated entrepreneurial community.

If I had to choose something I like least about Houston, it would probably be the **sprawl and the amount of time we spend in our cars**. Houston is enormous, and sometimes the very scale that creates opportunity also makes the city feel disconnected.

But even that is changing as neighborhoods develop stronger identities and Houston embraces more innovative, connected hospitality experiences.

Overall, I believe Houston—and Texas more broadly—is at a very exciting point in its evolution. **There is still so much being built here, and for an entrepreneur, that is exactly what makes it exciting.**
