Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Lorah.
Hi Kimberly, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
If you had told me years ago that I would one day build a career around divorce, I probably would have laughed. Divorce was certainly never part of my life plan but, as we know, life doesn’t always follow the plan.
I began my career as a Licensed Professional Counselor and have spent more than 25 years in the mental health field. I always felt drawn to helping people. But here is where my plans changed. After more than two decades of marriage, I found myself facing one of the biggest transitions of my own life: divorce.
Even with my professional background, I wasn’t prepared for how much divorce would affect every part of my life. It wasn’t just the end of a marriage. It changed my family, my finances, my home, my identity, and the future I thought I was going to have. I understood emotions and human behavior professionally, but experiencing divorce from the other side of the couch gave me an entirely different perspective.
As I worked through the pain my divorce, I quickly realized how difficult it is to navigate such an emotional experience while also being expected to make some of the most important decisions of my life. I also began to see a gap between the legal process of divorce and the emotional and practical support people need to get through it.
That realization eventually led me to divorce coaching. It felt like a natural intersection of everything I had learned professionally and everything I had experienced personally. I became a Certified Divorce Coach and ultimately founded Blossom Coaching.
The name Blossom really reflects my own journey. Divorce forced me to rebuild parts of my life I never expected to have to rebuild, but somewhere along the way, I also discovered new parts of myself and a new sense of purpose.
My life certainly didn’t unfold the way I thought it would. But today, I’m able to bring together my experience as a therapist, my training as a coach, and my understanding as someone who has been through divorce herself. What started as one of the hardest chapters of my life ultimately led me to work that feels deeply meaningful and to a chapter I never could have imagined when this journey began.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has not been a smooth road but I think that is part of what makes where I am today so meaningful.
Divorce itself was one of the biggest challenges of my life. After being married for more than two decades, I wasn’t just adjusting to the end of a marriage. I was figuring out who I was outside of it, how to rebuild my life, and what I wanted my future to look like. There was no roadmap but there was a ton of uncertainty, betrayal, fear, grief and anger.
One of the biggest lessons I learned was that rebuilding doesn’t happen all at once. There were times when I wanted to have everything figured out immediately, but life doesn’t really work that way. I had to learn to tolerate uncertainty, trust myself again, make decisions without knowing exactly where they would lead, and allow myself to grow into a new version of my life.
Professionally, there were challenges too. Creating Blossom Coaching meant stepping outside of the traditional therapist role I had known for so many years and building something from the ground up. I had to learn an entirely different side of being a professional—entrepreneurship, marketing, networking, putting myself out there, and becoming comfortable talking about my own story as part of my work. None of that came naturally at first.
There have been plenty of wrong turns, second guesses, and things I would probably do differently if I were starting again. But I’ve also learned that progress rarely happens in a straight line.
In many ways, the challenges have shaped both who I am and how I approach my work today. I know what it feels like when the future you planned suddenly looks very different. I also know that you don’t have to have the entire next chapter figured out to begin writing it. Sometimes you just have to be willing to take the next step.
As you know, we’re big fans of Blossom Coaching, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Blossom Coaching, LLC was created around a simple fact: divorce is not just a legal event. It is a major life transition. While attorneys, mediators, and financial professionals play essential roles in the divorce process, people also need support managing everything happening in their head, heart, and everyday life while they are making decisions that can affect their future.
That is where I come in.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Divorce Coach, and Certified Pre-Mediation Divorce Coach. What sets my work apart is that I bring together more than 25 years of experience in the mental health field, specialized divorce coaching training, and the personal understanding of someone who has been through divorce herself. I often describe it as offering the guidance of a coach, the expertise of a therapist, and the understanding of someone who has been there.
Through Blossom Coaching, I help people manage overwhelm, prepare for difficult conversations and decisions, navigate the divorce process, prepare for mediation, and begin rebuilding their lives. I offer individual divorce coaching, specialized mediation preparation, and divorce support groups that provide a safe, understanding community during what can otherwise feel like a very isolating experience.
A big part of my approach is helping people separate facts from feelings. Emotions absolutely matter during divorce, but when fear, anger, grief, or overwhelm are driving important decisions, it can be difficult to think clearly. I help clients slow things down, understand what they can control, identify what really matters to them, and respond intentionally rather than react emotionally.
I’m especially proud that Blossom Coaching supports the whole person not just the divorce case. I want them to be able to look back and feel that they made thoughtful decisions, advocated for what mattered, avoided unnecessary regrets, and took care of themselves along the way.
Ultimately, Blossom is about more than getting through divorce. My philosophy is: Go through it. Get through it. Grow through it. Blossom. Your marriage may have ended but your life is not over.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
One of the biggest things I’ve learned (both in business and in life) is that you don’t have to have everything figured out before you start.
When I was rebuilding my life after divorce, I certainly didn’t have a master plan that included becoming a divorce coach and creating Blossom Coaching. One step led to another. I became curious about divorce coaching, pursued additional training, started working with clients, listened to what people needed, and continued to shape my business from there.
I think we sometimes wait until we feel completely ready or confident before taking the next step. What I’ve learned is that confidence often comes after you take the step, not before it.
Starting a business has also taught me to be willing to evolve. Some ideas work, some don’t, and sometimes the direction you originally imagined isn’t where you ultimately end up. I wish I had known earlier that changing course doesn’t mean you failed but often means you learned something.
I’ve also learned how important it is to build relationships Networking, collaborating with other professionals, asking questions, and putting myself out there have opened doors I never could have planned for.
And perhaps most importantly, don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. Building something meaningful takes time. There will be moments of excitement and moments when you wonder what on earth you are doing. Keep learning, stay connected to why you started, and give yourself permission to grow along the way.
Interestingly, that’s not very different from what divorce taught me. You don’t need to know exactly what the next five years will look like. Sometimes you just need enough clarity and courage to take the next right step. Looking back, many of the steps I was most unsure about are the ones that ultimately brought me to where I am today.
