Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Gauna.
Meagan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After graduating high school, I got into the Art Institute of Houston-North. Meanwhile going to school, I worked a full-time job and moved my way up as an Assistant Manager. My plans to go to New York and work for a Magazine did not happen! I had a wonderful little girl and I decided it would be best to stay in Houston and slowly build my business. Before graduating at AI, I started booking, and after graduating, I just kept trying to bring more and more people in. I used different websites, such as Thumbtack, Wedding Wire, Facebook etc… Some of them worked for me, some of them didn’t work for me. I just took it day by day. I knew it would take time and a lot of hard work, but I know I’d eventually be able to be where I am now. And I still think I should be doing better, even though I’m double booked most weekends and still booked on the week days.
I’ve always been self-motivated and very competitive so this is defiantly one of the things that has got me to where I am right now. Hard work, dedication, and persistence.
Yes, it has been a struggle, yes, I am always on call. But I can absolutely say I love what I do. Also, the most important part about this is that my daughter has been my inspiration throughout all this. I love to be able to manage my own business, also be able to have the time available to be a great mother to my daughter.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely did not start off as a smooth road, but I can say I am a workaholic so that helped a lot!
Some of the struggles that came along the way are the pricing and the customers not wanting to pay my worth. I priced low and ended up overworking. The media was also another one of my struggles. Believe it or not, I hate social media and even computers at that! Haha. But I had to make sure I was always promoting somehow.
Another struggle was I needed to make money and I wasn’t making enough. To help, I juggled in between jobs such as being a part time key holder and cleaning homes throughout the years.
Although I reduced my prices I knew eventually I’d be able to set my prices the way I wanted them. I just knew I had to get more people, more weddings, more of everything to be able to be where I am. I’ve always known if I put hard work in, good would come. Being optimistic and very positive about my business is what made me be where I am at now. As far as promoting goes, I’ve always been on the go and a big sales person/hustler, so that has been a huge advantage!!!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Freckles Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I named my business Freckles Photography because it was honestly a last-minute thing in Collage! Haha. I’m so humble and I just basically loved what I did, and did it. I never thought of putting a name on myself! BUT. I did choose this name because it describes me very well. I have Freckles all over my face!!! It also was a very friendly name, and that I am. I have seven years of photo experience specializing in all types of photography. I specialize in Weddings, Quince’s, Boudior, Nudes, Artistic Work, Portraits (families, senior, newborns), and Maternal. I’m mostly known for Boudoir, Artistic Outdoor Nudes, Families, and Weddings.
Capturing moments in everyone’s life is my passion. Being able to expose parts of life in a way that isn’t always seen is what I love to do, I guess that’s what sets me apart from others. I am patient, wild, overly enthusiastic, friendly, and over all fun to be around. There’s never a dull moment around me.
I care about my client’s needs and wants, and I make it happen. I am always open to anything new and have a very live personality! I don’t believe that creativity has a limit and I apply that in my work. Passion, vision, creativity, and satisfaction are the key elements that I bring to the table.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about our city is the ups and downs about it. I love how classy it can get but also have some rough parts to it. I love how it’s becoming more and more popular as the years’ pass.

Meagan Guana is truly an amazing photographer. She was able to capture our baby girl perfectly. Not only did she have patience with us, but her creativity and outstanding personality made it easier for our daughter to cooperative during the photo shoot. It really is her natural element to be behind the lens capturing precious moments we can cherish forever.

Meagan is an AMAZING photographer, friend and mother!! She knows how to get people to forget to be self conscious and captures amazing images in the process. I would never trust special moments to ANYONE else. She has done senior/family pics for both my kids, and I can say in all honestly that they are some of my most cherished photos. Some of my favorites are they ones we didn’t ‘pose’ for, the moments she just captured when we weren’t looking.
