Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheryl Thomas.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I can’t say that I’ve dreamed of owning a photography business since I was a kid, but I can say that I’ve prepared for this role my entire life without even realizing it until a few years ago. I worked in the commercial real estate industry for more than 13 years before starting my photography business. I held research and marketing positions and always gravitated toward the creative projects. I knew at some point I would love to be in a role that allowed me to work with Photoshop on a daily basis. I absolutely love before and after pictures and makeovers of any sort.
The idea of owning a photography business was gifted to me by my subconscious mind I suppose because it had not been a desire until a couple of years before starting my business. When I did get the idea, it became an overpowering obsession that I had to achieve. I got to where I am today the same way I started my business. One step at a time, learning along the way, and believing that I am successful throughout this entire journey simply because I took the first step and continue to work toward my goals every day.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was willing to sacrifice all my time, money, and energy to make my vision a reality. Good thing I was willing because I actually ended up sacrificing all these things. Almost everything about owning this business was a learning process. This was my first business and I was new to the photography industry. However, this vision was given to me so I was determined to see it through. It gave me a purpose. During my struggle, I realized I have to succeed because I am an example to others and my story may inspire someone. Before starting my business, I was employed by a great company doing a job that I liked and was compensated fairly. My obsession with the idea of a photography business was so intense that I resigned from my stable full-time job to pursue my vision. I didn’t know how I was going to do everything, but I knew I would be fine if I just took the steps. My greatest struggle was lack of knowledge that could have saved me lots of time, money, and energy.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about PlusCorp Photography & Marketing – what should we know?
What sets me apart from others is my perspective and past. Every company reflects the personality of the leader. The services offered may be the same, but we’re all different based on our unique character and how we apply that to our business. I specialize in commercial real estate photography and corporate headshots. I have a background in commercial real estate photography and feel my past experience is very valuable in my business today. I’ve served real estate professionals for many years in my previous administrative roles. Now I continue to serve by offering photography services.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most important characteristic that has opened doors to unbelievable opportunities is my attitude. I’m definitely not the best photographer, but I strive to please my customers with the best attitude possible. I show gratitude.
