Meet Lisa Holloway of Lisa Holloway Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Holloway.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
About 8 years ago, my husband and I went on our honeymoon to Costa Rica. We had a little point and shoot camera that we took everywhere. I remember we went on a boat tour and every single person had a big, fancy camera. Here I was hanging my arm out the side of the boat on a river full of crocodiles, trying to get a shot with my teeny little camera and everyone else was snapping away catching the most amazing pictures.

While that little camera did its job, it didn’t show the trip the way I wanted it to. When we got back, I went out and bought a Canon Rebel camera and had no idea what I was doing with it. It pretty much sat on a shelf for a few years until I had my first son. After he was born I forced myself to learn how to use it and I guess you can say I became your typical momtographer.

I remember sitting down one day and telling my husband I wanted to be a photographer. He went out that weekend and bought me a new camera just because he believed in me. He has always been my biggest fan, from building some crazy prop or always being the first to like my posts on facebook. Plus he gave me some pretty cute kids to take pictures of! I started shooting family and friends, and they really paved the way for me. I’ve had a really amazing support system rooting me on.

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not! Running a business and being a mom to three little kids has definitely shown me a new side to myself. Doing this has brought me out of my comfort zone as well. I am not the type of person to put myself out there and I am way harder on myself than I should be. I’ve probably said I was going to quit at least a 100 times!

I sacrifice a lot of sleep and always look like I’m driving the struggle bus but when I have a client tell me they cried looking at their pictures, it all makes it worth it. I’ve really been blessed with some amazing families over the years. I wouldn’t be where I am now without them.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lisa Holloway Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a family photographer, so I capture everything from maternity, newborns to graduations. Houston has so many amazing photographers and to even be an established business here is an amazing thing. Recently my oldest asked if he could take my picture while we were out shooting and my heart nearly exploded.

To see my kids want to learn and be excited about what I do will always be my proudest moments. I really love to capture both the posed shots as well as the candid moments. As a mom, I want that cheesy smile but I also want the hot mess, because real life is really awesome! I love being able to provide those memories to my clients.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Houston is such a wonderful place to be a photographer. We have beautiful parks, an amazing downtown, the beach and so much more. Plus we have the best people! Aside from all the beauty, I could definitely do without the heat and bugs.
