Today we’d like to introduce you to Britney Boyd.
Britney, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Art, in many forms, through many different mediums, has always been a part of me and my world. I was blessed with numerous gifts from birth and my mother nourished those gifts by putting me in schools, programs, and extracurricular activities that were about developing my natural creative gifts. My creative capabilities have only grown and elevated throughout time. I engaged in drawing, painting, creative writing, choir, and theatre to name a few, but discovered my love for all things fashion related when my elementary school allowed us to break free from the confinement of our drab uniforms and express our individuality on “Free Dress Fridays.” This is when I discovered my love for personal style and would utilize these days to really create a unique look that was all my own. Soon, some of the girls started asking me what they should wear and how they should style it. I went on to attend an Arts focused Middle School and later, a regular high school, but through this time, I would be nominated as “Best Dressed” for our class and was the go-to person for style advice and fashion tips amongst my friends. I graduated high school and later attended The Art Institute of Houston, where I graduated with a B.S. in Fashion Retail & Managment. There, was where I developed my business skills as well as with the help of managing various retailers. The best practice is real practice. Some things just can’t be learned in books.
In 2014, I realized the phenomenal impact that I could make on a woman’s image and confidence, just by dressing them appropriately. I developed quite the reputation for visual aesthetics and retaining long-time shoppers. They would come just for me to style them for their various events, so I decided to create Her Guiltless Garb Wardrobe Consulting & Personal Styling as well as my personal style blog, which I now have coined as my “Style & Life Femoires.” Femoires is a made up word, but it is all my own and has special meaning in that it encompasses my love to tell stories through the use of creative writing, share my fashion and style tips. promote my business, share life’s lessons and so much more. Femoires means, female memoirist. I got tired of the blogger box and the “blogger world” due to the direction in which it was going, so this was a fresh way for me to separate myself and not be confined to a box.
My very first clients and still, even today are my family members. They have been my number one supporters and have utilized me for many different services within my styling repertoire. I service the unapologetic and fearless woman who desires to create a beautiful and carefully curated wardrobe free from guilt. The guilt of shopping above their means while creating a feeling of complete satisfaction with their purchases, their confidence level, and their personal style.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish I could say that it was, lol. Honestly, I don’t know that I can say that I would have wanted it to be any other way though. Throughout my journey, I have predominantly done everything on my own. If I wouldn’t have, then everything that I would’ve learned would’ve been spoon fed and it would take the accomplishment of overcoming out of the equation. As with anything in business, you learn, you grow, you fall, you learn some more and regroup. I am definitely nowhere near the place in my business to where that I can confidently say that I am satisfied or where I want to be because there are thousands of women who struggle with self-doubt and image identity crisis, but I am thankful and grateful for the women who have been touched and visually enhanced through the utilization of my services. I feel as though most people believe they aren’t lucrative enough to afford a personal stylist, and this is so far from the truth. With that mentality, they don’t seek help. Personal stylists aren’t just for the rich and famous.
Anybody who is need of image consulting can have a personal stylist. Having a personal stylist is just as important as having an aesthetician, hairstylist, makeup artist or manicurist. It’s all about personal image and enhancing that image through the help of professionals who are gifted or skilled in their craft. To all of my lovely young ladies who wish to embark out in this industry, I would say to first pray. Ask God for clarity along your journey, to mandate your purpose and never stop seeking guidance. Then, seek a mentor or someone who is doing the same thing that you would like to do for guidance and help along the way. Read, research, experiment, learn, pray for discernment and NEVER GIVE UP! Being an entrepreneur is not easy because you are literally the person who fills the place for hundreds of people in one business, but It’s really ok. If God says this is for you, you will succeed!

My versatility, knowledge and God-given talent allow me to do my best to operate in excellence. I’m excited that my brand is still quite hidden, so I have a lot of room to experiment and make mistakes. I’m always revamping and adding things to enhance my service packages and the overall experience with my brand, so my business is steadily evolving.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Don’t doubt yourself, when you doubt, you deplete yourself of reaching your potential. Believe me, I know and I’m working through this as well. PRAY every day and seek God for your business decisions and ask him to send you a mentor that loves you and cares about your success. Develop and stand in your why. Make your why your mission and never forget it. Work HARD, get up when everyone is asleep and do your research. Never stop seeking, learning, growing and throughout it all stay humble.
