Meet Tamika Phillips of BellaMe Wax & Lash Studio in Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Phillips.

Tamika, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Despite having an Information Systems Technology degree from the University of Houston and working as a Learning and Development Manager my passion for the beauty industry led me to get my Cosmetology license. To gain experience and a feel for the industry I worked several part-time positions ranging from makeup advisor, hair stylist, and wax specialist.

Working diligently to perfect my craft and as I built my clientele I realized how uncomfortable people felt getting intimate waxing. I set out to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for ALL customers. In 2013 I was laid off from my full-time position and instead of looking for employment in my area of expertise I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue my passion hence BellaMe Wax & Lash Studio came into fruition.

Has it been a smooth road?
There were definitely struggles along the way. When you decide to open a business on your own you must build clientele and a reputable brand that customers can trust.

Initially, I didn’t have any reviews and I was using Groupon for visibility. Customers were wary about patronizing my business as they were not familiar with my business. I didn’t let that discourage me though I just stayed the course and slowly but surely the reviews started coming in and customers were referring their friends and family.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the BellaMe Wax & Lash Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
At BellaMe Wax & Lash Studio we specialize in full body waxing. We take pride in making sure that each guest has the most comfortable and painless wax experience possible. We hear too many waxing horror stories and we have set out to ensure our clients that the waxing process does not have to be scary or painful.

I pride myself on providing a professional, sanitary, and knowledgeable studio where my clients can feel comfortable getting their services. We also offer a convenient online booking application for customers to view and book their appointments 24/7. Other services that we provide are lash extensions, facials, microblading, and eyebrow and eyelash tinting.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The beauty industry is always evolving as we are always in constant search for new services and products that help us look and feel our best. Social Media platforms are also becoming the best avenues to reach new customers and promote our business.

We are seeing advancements in permanent makeup and facial procedures with a focus on youthfulness and health. A focus on also supplying products that are environmentally friendly, vegan, and/or organic are at the forefront as well. As far as waxing which has been around since Ancient times ; it is only getting better as waxing techniques and wax products improve.
