Life and Work with Angela Amores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Amores.

Angela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I originally started my blog, Pretty In Her Pearls, as a way to share my life as a newly married couple. We’d been married for a couple years and I loved the idea of sharing a little of us, our story, and my style. We had done something similar but on a much smaller scale for our wedding website and registry and at the time, I really liked working on that. Little did I know, a couple years the interest that grew from that experience would help me to start my blog. At the time, our life was going through some major ups and downs with 3 miscarriages. The feeling of starting a blog that focused on our story was a little hard for me at the time, so I changed and redirected it to focus on fashion and beauty two things I had always loved. It was such a great distraction from all the fertility stuff we were dealing with. Thankfully, we found an amazing doctor and that chapter is a small piece our story to grow our family. The blog has grown from where I started and its focus is still style, beauty with the occasional post about my favorite baby gear and products.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenge has probably been finding balance within my work life and personal life. I am a wife, and mom to two toddlers (a three-year-old son and a one-year-old daughter) and finding the right balance between being a mom that is present and running Pretty In Her Pearls can be hard at times. I really try to put my husband and babies first and try to get as much done between nap times and bedtime. That isn’t always possible but I try my best.

For anyone starting out, I would suggest being patient, staying in your lane, and doing your best. Don’t compare yourself to someone else because you might be comparing your beginning to their middle. Think about some of the big bloggers you follow and remember everyone started somewhere. So, just get started. Also, there is only one you so use your voice. It’s unique.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pretty In Her Pearls – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
As a style blogger, I’m always looking for ways that my readers can find inspiration when they are getting dressed. I’d like to think my blog is known for sharing attainable cute outfits that people might already have in their closet but just haven’t thought about putting together. I always want it to feel like a place where everyone is welcome.

I think what I am probably most proud of is the fact that I knew nothing really about blogging before I started and I’ve learned so much from working hard and from asking questions. I mean I didn’t know anything. I’m basically the least technically savvy person out there.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I think the biggest challenge for women at times is thinking we are in competition with each other. I have been so lucky that the local Houston Bloggers I’ve met really live by the mantra that your shine doesn’t dull mine. It really is so refreshing. I have made some of the sweetest and most knowledgeable friends through blogging. Something I didn’t expect but I am so grateful for.
