Today we’d like to introduce you to Amin Kabani.
Amin, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Never in a million years did I ever think I would be doing makeup. Growing up in a Muslim household, you either became a Doctor, an engineer, or a business owner. Being a Gay Muslim Man was a unique challenge in itself but growing up I always imagined owning my own business of some sorts, maybe advertising or marketing. Soon after graduating with a degree in Marketing and Business Administration, I ended up falling for a hairdresser and together we embarked on a mission to open up our very own salon and day spa. We quickly grew our business from 2 people to almost 50 over a period of 19 years and it was during this time that I discovered my passion for makeup. Over the years, I was able to develop my talent and was able to showcase my work on the Runway, Print and Television.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
To this day, I’m shocked that I can make women look beautiful. People always say I’m an artist, but I can’t draw, don’t paint and never had any desire to do so. But when I look at my clients, I study their face and start with the end in mind…How do I want her to look when she’s done…and I just work backwards! I specialize in beauty makeup, airbrush makeup, bridal, pageant, and some editorial. I don’t like to cake on the makeup, but rather enhance the hidden beauty within each of my clients. I love seeing their faces after I’m done doing their makeup. They get this newfound energy, strength and confidence and that makes everything I do so worth it! I also love to teach women how to do their own makeup, and especially how to take a quick 5-minute makeup routine and enhance it to a full glam with a few key steps! Because I never learned to do makeup from a makeup school or academy, I teach my clients that there are no rules when it comes to using a certain product or tool for a sole purpose; If you can use it for another purpose and do it well, go for it! My goal is to showcase women of different generations and ethnicities to capture their own unique beauty, and I truly believe it’s easy for EVERY Woman to learn to do just that!
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
My advice for other artists is to not hesitate to share your knowledge…No one will take away what you know and you’ll be surprised as to how much you will re-learn or improve on your own talent by sharing what you know!
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work has been seen on numerous Television shows including Inside Edition, E-Entertainment, Miss USA and Miss Universe! I have also been blessed to have my work published in numerous magazines including Allure, Seventeen, CHI, Esthetica, Glamour, Self to name a few. I have had the opportunity to work with Jeannie Mai, Giuliana Rancic, Crystle Stewart Sebrechts to name just a few!
