Today we’d like to introduce you to Mehboob Shrivastava.
Mehboob, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
VAMR Consultants – the seed of this idea got germinated in the year 2016 with a mission to endeavor for excellence and persistent growth while creating a perfect milieu to foster the rapid evolution of small and mid-market organizations. The core value of this idea is to help small & mid-sized companies get the same quality of Big 4 firms like PwC and EY at the pricing they can afford. VAMR Consultants is a management consulting company which offers as of now Bookkeeping, Internal Audit, Forensics Investigation Support, Taxation, Mobile Notary Public, Forex Investment Education Platform, and Patient (injured in Car Accident) Liaison Services to our clients.
Idea got its life at Silicon Valley of India, traveled to Qatar – host of 2022 Soccer World Cup and then finally reached to the Space City in the year 2017. Giving a glimpse of my career as a professional, landed, on a pleasant and bright morning of 14 September 2009, at the city of palaces – Mysore. I joined Infosys starting my professional career with lots of apprehensions. From the first day of my training, I was confident that I was not there to get only trained in software development but to enjoy facilities to the hilt.
During my training days, I did all that was possible: from Salsa to Squash, Tennis to Table Tennis. But yet, scored enough to be treated as one of the elite trainees who gets to choose a line of service. My friends used to call me “Maverick” because of my actions. I have been proving them right with everything I had been doing so far. I chose Business Analysis team at Infosys and few years down the line moved to EY Risk Advisory Services and then to PwC Consulting team before starting my own Financial Professional Services Company at Bangalore in 2015. So, from a 10-pointer engineer became Grade A finance professional in short span of 6 years.
“Born and bred on the banks of Ganges,
Professional coaching on the sands of the Thar,
Graduation on the cold snow capped hills of Shimla,
Career map from the city of palaces to the Garden City to the Space City.”
Well, I am still a traveler, and my journey is on. During this journey so far, filled with options at every stage, I have realized that life is a cup of coffee. We drink through the bitterness of coffee only to find sugar crystals at the bottom. Can we enjoy coffee without enjoying every sip of it? I have learned living life in the option-less and regret-free world, enjoying it by every moment.
All I would like to say:
“If not the highway, let me be a trail, If not the sun, let me be a star, Because it is not by size that I win, or I fail, Let me be the best of whatever I am”.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Recently departed celebrity chef, Anthony Michael Bourdain once said, “No one understands and appreciates the American Dream of hard work leading to material rewards better than a non-American.” I say, “Aye Aye”. I am unsure and believe it would be unfair to categorize my journey on this road as smooth or bumpy but one thing for sure is that I am persevering on this journey and like they say “we hang around the barbershop long enough, sooner or later we’re going to get a haircut”.
One major struggle in this journey is to make a brand of VAMR Consultants, be visible in front of businesses, be credible and provide quality service. When we work like big brands like PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Ernst & Young (EY) – branding comes naturally but entrepreneurs need to work on their personal branding and create their own niche. I believe in the end it’s worthwhile and like the most coveted serial entrepreneur Richard Branson says, “Entrepreneur is someone who jumps off a cliff and builds a plane on the way down.” I say, “I have jumped off the cliff when I quit PwC and my plane is work in progress.”
We’d love to hear more about your business.

What were you like growing up?
It was on March 26th in the town famous for Lychee fruit (Litchi), Muzaffarpur India that I, the only child of my parents, was born. When I was in 4th grade in 1994, my parents shifted to Patna – the capital city of Bihar, located on the southern bank of the Ganges River.
It was here that I was provided with an ambience of intellectual and liberal learning which helped me grow up with an insatiable curiosity. This was the time of my journey of debates, handicrafts, dramatics and dancing triggered off and I grew up being an ardent lover of fiction books, nature and sports. Did my baccalaureate course in Electronics and Communications Engineering and the foundation I received during my high school days to keep a balance between academics and extracurricular activities proved effective everywhere.
During these 4 years, donned several hats from being the coordinator of Robotics Society to the President of Jaypee Youth Club (JYC)-the student committee that comprises 400+ people. I became the only 10-pointer for my engineering batch in the final semester and could repeat the same feat during my Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore higher studies – became the one out of only two students in our batch who scored perfect Grade A in all examinations and evaluations.
I play sports from Cricket to Softball, Golf to Volleyball, Squash to Tennis and presently actively involved in Scuba Diving – I am PADI certified Rescue Diver and 10 more dives away from Master Scuba Diver certification. I am also enthusiastically involved with Toastmasters International (TMI) and TMI has bestowed me with their highest recognition of Distinguished Toastmasters (DTM).
Professionally, I am a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Member of Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) as well as Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), and associated with BNI Midtown Chapter.
