Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Palacios.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Brandy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Wife, makeup artist, and photographer!
I started doing makeup professionally 11 years ago, I was in Cosmetics for 7 years always doing weddings on my days off from work then eventually getting into the wedding industry full time. I searched for the perfect members to add to my time, I started off with myself and one hairstylist and we did over 100 weddings our first year of business, then adding an extra makeup artist and additional stylist. We now have over six members on our team and do over 200 weddings a year!
We have a studio in downtown Houston a few minutes from Minute Maid Park!
Since we have a great team to help me out. This year, I have been training in photography, I’ve been absolutely loving it!
Brandy Palacios Photography has just launched and we will be offering brides a bundle when they need photography and hair and makeup.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Weddings are not the easiest things to handle for sure!
There’s a lot of stress, and tears involved, but someone’s those are happy tears for your brides!
Being your own boss has its ups and downs but I always tell all my new entrepreneur friends to just take it one day at a time! Do not compare yourself to other teams or artists, everyone has their own journey and there’s plenty of work for everyone to go around! I’m always here to support my fellow artists.
Please tell us about BP Artistry.
We offer hair and makeup, our brides get to choose between airbrush or traditional foundation. Anyone can do what we do, but we like to offer a particular style of glam to set us apart from others! Beauty is such a huge part of someone’s wedding day! If we don’t do a good job, it can change the way a bride feels for her whole wedding day!
We are responsible for that, and we work as hard as we can to make sure they’re happy.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
It’s tough for people to take us serious when we say we are our own bosses in this industry! When people think of a “makeup artist” they think we just have fun doing it or do it for fun, they have no idea what it takes to do what we do. I find myself constantly explaining it over and over.
