Life and Work with Leah Egwuatu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Egwuatu.

Leah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been active in sports growing up, but my love for group fitness began in college. I would take classes on campus and after I graduated, I wanted to keep it going, so I joined a gym. I faithfully took a class from an instructor, I played intramural volleyball at the University of Houston and she truly encouraged me to step out in faith and become an instructor, so I finally did! I majored in computer engineering technology, and I worked in the IT field for a few years after graduation. I would teach a class before and after work. I became pregnant with my first son in 2010 and continued to teach, even at 530 am, until about 38 weeks. After working on/off from home, my IT contract expired at the end of 2012, and I became a full-time stay-at-home-mom at the start of the new year. I started my health and fitness blog (www.fitfoodiele.com) just before I left my IT manager role and began to focus on maintaining and updating it regularly, as well as continuing to teach fitness classes. I was posting randomly to Instagram when I first joined in 2012 and deiced to concentrate on fitness, healthy food, and sprinkle in some #momlife moments here and there. After documenting two more fit pregnancies via IG and my blog, I was overwhelmed with love and support from a women around the globe! I became certified in pre & postnatal fitness, and most recently, pilates! Never did I think I would be working with brands I love and have been using for years while inspiring people to be the very best versions of themselves. I’m honored, grateful, and enjoying this ride!

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road? Do those exist? Social media sure can make it look like they do! unfortunately, more often than not, I hindered my own professional growth. Self-doubt (stemming from comparison) can be pretty savage and detrimental to your future, and I let it rule me for quite some time as IG became more popular. It paralyzed me and I did more waiting and worrying when I need to be WALKING! My advice to young women (I have my daughter in mind as I type this) is to be confident in who God created you to be.

Following the crowd will often keep you lost in it… and your time is too precious to waste. Rest assured that nobody can do what you do like you do it! be free of comparison in all aspects of your life and celebrate the individual that you are. How you do anything is how you do everything! this isn’t a dress rehearsal… we only get one life. live on purpose and with intent. You are entirely up to YOU.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fit Foodie Le & Fit Phix – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I change lives! I have been a group fitness instructor for almost 10 years now! I teach a variety of formats including HIIT, Weight Training, Pilates, & Kickboxing. I believe I am known for getting up at an ungodly hour to workout, lol, but as a mom of 3 little ones, it just fits and how I continue to start my day with my best foot forward. I work with all women, but pre & postnatal fitness is my specialty. Having experienced 3 fit pregnancies myself, I want to shout from the rooftops how important maintaining a healthy lifestyle is for carrying our precious blessings! I’m a blogger, IG Influencer (@fitfoodiele), and co-owner of a family run fitness company, Fit Phix. We currently teach a wide array of classes and personal train clients in Katy, TX. Working with my husband, Sonny, is just like training for a fitness competition under the same roof with him; we push each other, ague, makeup, and we get the job done, haha! When we were both in the engineering field, we barely saw each other, so I love that Sonny now gets to truly be present with not only me but our children as well.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
There are opportunities out there for all women… as long as she is willing to put in the work! You have to put in the work.
