Today we’d like to introduce you to Judy Masliyah.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Judy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My Flaming Heart is the culmination of all my interests. I grew up in southern California in the 70’s and during my teenage years I would explore hippy shops. They were always filled with colorful ethnic fabrics, folk art and exotic jewelry. I later studied fashion design and remained influenced by other cultures and moments in history.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a bumpy ride. My shop has been part of the revitalization of this area. So not only was I trying to start a new business, but I was also trying to develop a neighborhood. We have had to draw people into this new part of town, which has been a challenge
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I design clothing and jewelry and I have a team of amazing women that make purses, jewelry and handmade cards. I make women’s and children’s clothing as well as shirts for men. I either alter or custom make everything to fit, no matter what size. Fabrics can also be special ordered and we have even started to design our own. I am very proud that I can make flattering clothes for people who often have a difficult time finding things that fit.
What were you like growing up?
I wanted to be an archeologist. I was always interested in how people lived and what kind of artifacts were in different cultures.

This archeologist enjoys seeing your creations in your shop window when I’m walking to MATCH or the Continental Club.
