Meet Karen Peterson of Everything Party Store of Texas in League City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Peterson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Karen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a registered nurse and have worked in home health for about 25 years. I worked out of an office in Galveston County and the company downsized and I no longer had my position. I worked a part-time nursing position that was to transition to a full-time position but that plan did not work out. I decided to look at a business to open for myself. I wanted to find something that would be a fun place to work and to shop. I decided to open a party store and I opened the doors on April 1st of 2015. I have learned many new skills, such as tying a balloon, met many new and interesting people and have a chance to be creative.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since opening, I have had to learn what the customers in my area are shopping for. It has definitely been a learning experience. Our shopping center had a setback when the anchor store closed July of 2016 to move to a new site. We are hopeful that something will move in soon. I have realized there are a lot of holidays and celebrations that occur throughout the year and the seasons change fast. It is challenging to stay ahead.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Everything Party Store of Texas – what should we know?
My store has party supplies for all occasions. We have balloons, catering items, licensed party themes, gift wrap, favors and decorations and supplies for holidays throughout the year. I have balloons and tableware for local NFL teams and Texas colleges and some surrounding colleges. I try to give personal attention to my customers when they come in to shop and try to bring in new everyday items as requested by my customers.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that being personable and assisting my customers as they come in is important. When possible, to find specially requested items is important to have returning customers.
