Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Lewis.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was called by God to the Ministry in 1992. I enrolled in Seminary in 1993 because I felt that the call to ministry and to preaching was also a call to the preparation and a call to study. I graduated from seminary with a Bachelor of Theology degree in 1995. Developing and training ministry leaders have been one of my passions ever since.
After earning my Bachelor’s degree in 1995, I went on to earn a Master of Divinity degree, a Ph.D. in Theology degree and Doctorate in Christian Counseling degree.
Because of my desire to train the next generation of ministry leaders, I decided to start Christian Bible Institute & Seminary in 2008. Christian Bible Institute & Seminary offers specialized ministry degree programs that provide leaders with hands-on experience while earning a college degree.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has definitely not been smooth. My first attempt at starting a seminary was in 1995. I invested quite a bit of money into marketing the school. I ran ads in some of the local Christian publications that were out at that time and commercial spots on a couple of gospel radio stations. We offered a three day open enrollment period for prospective students prior to the start of classes. There were a large number of people who expressed interest in enrolling but no one did. As a matter of fact, we didn’t have one person to show up for open enrollment to register for classes. Needless to say, this was very discouraging. I felt like a failure, as I was sure that this was something that God wanted me to do. How could I fail at something that he told me to do? This taught me a very valuable lesson. This lesson that I learned from this, is that you can sometimes do the right thing, but at the wrong time.

I am the president and founder of the school. I am most proud of the fact that Christian Bible Institute & Seminary has trained more than 5,000 leaders all over the world in the short period of time that we have been in existence. Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like most about Houston is that it’s one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the country. What I like least about Houston are the heat and the humidity… Lol!
