Meet Foye A. Ikyaator of Foye MD and Spa, Life Savers Emergency Room

Today we’d like to introduce you to Foye A. Ikyaator.

Foye, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am passionate about saving lives literarily. My husband, Orseer  and I are co-owners of Life Savers Emergency Room and Foye MD and Spa.  I thank God for my husband as he’s been my backbone and strength in this remarkable journey of ours; encouraging me in every way and facilitating the operations of Life Savers ER and Foye MD and Spa.

Realizing a need for emergency care that focused on educating patients, we launched Life Savers ER to the world in 2015. It was a testament to the fact that if you have a dream and your dream has a vision and goal that helps others, it is bound to succeed. At Life Savers ER, we have successfully treated and had a positive impact on thousands of patients.

I earned my bachelors in Nutrition Science from The University of Georgia in 2005 with Honors. I subsequently studied medicine at University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health on a full academic scholarship. I remember my Dad telling me…education is a privilege and I needed to work hard to get a scholarship because we could not afford the tuition. Upon graduating, I was residency trained in Emergency Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and am Board Certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

I am passionate about educating my patients to be co-partners in their well-being. I see so many patients in the ER who don’t really know why they are taking the medications they are on. Diseases that can be eradicated with education and lifestyle changes are being managed with pill after pill.

After working full-time in several emergency rooms around Houston, I quickly realized that my true passion lay in playing an active role in the empowerment of my patients. This desire is what led me to create Foyé MD and Spa. My dream was to create a space where patients could be treated for their medical concerns and walk out of the clinic feeling and looking amazing. I am also intentional about teaching medical students in the Emergency Room.

I am a hands on physician and a daily participant in the care of all patients at Life Savers Emergency Room and Foye MD and Spa. What I really like about Foye MD and Spa is the opportunity to capture patients and educate them before they become the ER patient that is suffering from conditions that could have been prevented. I also really enjoy helping men and women achieve their aesthetic goals. From the diabetic or hypertensive patient, to the weight loss patient, to the patient that just wants some Botox or Filler to combat signs of aging, I review each treatment plan and ensure that my patients’ experience will be unique and effective for them.

My joy for what I do helps me to see only the beauty in each patient and how to enhance their well-being.

Deep down I am  a scientist at heart and strive to provide only evidence based aesthetic and medical treatments that are backed by science and proven to work. From body contouring, to acne, to asthma, to Botox, these services and more are offered at Foyé MD and Spa.

As a mother of two and approaching my  mid thirties, I am well aware of the aging process and the toll that life has on women and men’s health. From sexual libido, to nutrition counseling, or hair loss, hypertension and weight management, my skill and ability to manage these concerns is highly appreciated by her patients.
I am  the proud wife of Orseer Ikyaator my best friend, and mother of Israel (three years) and Mimi  ten months). We reside in the Greater Houston area. I am available for new consultations by booking online or calling the clinic.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not. Our struggles define and mold our character.

I grew up in Nigeria which is in West Africa. I moved here when I was 8 years old. Assimilating into the American culture was difficult. Being told I did not belong, my accent was weird and feeling different was something I dealt with through my younger years. My parents were very supportive and encouraging, always teaching me the value of my education and encouraging me to be proud of my culture. I excelled in school because of their support. In high school, I was in the gifted program. I was able to attend college at University of Georgia on a full academic scholarship.
My freshman year, my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I was not familiar with death or illness until that point. She died less than 2 years after this. It was devastating to watch her suffer. She was incredibly brave. I remember asking to drop out of college to help our family and was immediately told “no”. that was not an option. My mother wanted me to succeed and her illness was not going to derail this dream. Her death affected me in such a permanent way. I understand people’s pain on a different level. I know what it means to carry your loved one literally to the restroom or wash their bodies or have to help feed them and give them their medications. I feel a deep empathy for people who are caregivers to the debilitated as well as to the person suffering from the illness. I hope in my daily practice I am able to encourage patients through painful  experiences.

Medical school and residency had their own challenges but nothing compared to the loss of my mother. In truth, the experiences in medical school and residency were only fuel for the fire I felt to succeed so that I could be the doctor that helped save people’s lives one day.

Please tell us about Foye MD and Spa , Life Savers Emergency Room.
Life Savers Emergency Room was founded in 2015 . The clinic was created to provide a safe and comfortable environment for our community to receive emergency medical care without having to experience long wait times in crowded and busy Emergency Rooms. Since opening in December 2015, Life Savers ER has provided care to over 10,000 patients in their time of need. We are conveniently located just off Highway 249 (also known as Tomball Parkway) and 1960. We partner with our local police department, fire department and postal service workers and believe in the service they provide to our community.

Life Savers Emergency Room is unique in that we provide hospital services in our facility for patients who are in need. Most patients would rather avoid the hospital at all costs and we have developed an observation program that saves patients thousands of dollars in hospital fees while allowing them the comfort of receiving one to one care with a team of dedicated health care providers. Our freestanding emergency room features:
Advanced Laboratory
On-Site Pharmacy
X-Rays
CT Scans
24/7 Doctors
Medical Assistants
Nurses
Radiologists
Radiology Technologists
Life Savers ER also specializes in auto accident care. We take care of patients who have sustained auto collisions every day. We understand the trauma of an event such as this and provide free medical screenings to all auto accident victims. We are even able to assist in the filing/claims process. Patients are able to leave the ER feeling better knowing that their medical concerns are taken care of and that the Life Savers Team is a an active participant in getting them back on their feet.

Life Savers ER also serves as a teaching facility for Remington, Brightwood, College of Healthcare Professionals and students. Our work with students provides patients with additional hands on service and attention while positively impacting the lives of these students.

Our medical spa services are extensive, but some therapies include botox, fillers, medical grade facials, laser hair removal, micro needling, microdermabrasion, PRP therapies, body contouring, and more.

What sets us apart.?
We want to address all our patient’s concerns. We don’t want to be a clinic that dishes out pills. Most patients who are hypertensive and diabetic could lose a few pounds and sometimes, that weight loss can play a dramatic impact on all their medical concerns. Some patients are dealing with sexual impotence, inability to have an orgasm, hair loss..so many things we don’t feel comfortable discussing with our doctors. At our clinic, the doors are open for these conversations. We have the tools to treat a number of concerns in one facility.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Once, my mom was coming home from a conference. Much as we love our grandmother, we had been stuck with her all week. My dad was away on business as well. When we heard her park out front, we ran outside and jumped on her at once. She fell to the ground with 3 kids on top of her. She was so happy to receive such a loving welcome, I remember she was crying ,but reassured us they were tears of joy. I will never forget that. I always try to show my sonthat kind of enthusiasm when he comes home from school. People need to feel loved. It affirms their worth in society. It strengthens them and gives them confidence.

Pricing:

  • At Life Savers ER, we bill the insurance and then the patient is responsible for whateveragreement the’ve made with their insurance that they will pay. For example, their co insurance or deductible is their responsibility.
  • At Foye MD and Spa, we usually have a consultation first because sometimes patients come in for a specific thing they saw on TV or online and then have to be counseled on what will actually be beneficial for their skin or body type etc.
