Meet Justin Hashaw of www.Justinhashaw.com

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Hashaw.

Justin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was always into taking pictures, mostly with cameras my mom kept in junk drawers. It was something I was just drawn to naturally, I really loved the whole process of setting things up and finding a cool angle and then sitting down with the image and editing it.

Up until a few years ago, I shot everything digitally until I was given a Polaroid 600 camera and what was then known as Impossible film, soon after I found some expired 35mm film, and a 35mm film camera and I have shot film exclusively from then on.

I’m fascinated with the idea that photographs can create their own atmosphere, they can take you to whatever reality you decide to create. I try to create images that are curious and arousing.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Relatively, being an analog photographer in a digital world has been the biggest challenge.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
Freelance photography gives me the opportunity to blend my ideas and inspirations with someone else’s vision; it’s extremely gratifying to create something that others can love and live with.

I think the DIY nature of everything I do kind of sets my work apart, I’ve always loved low budget/no budget films and I’m sure it has a lot to do with how my work turns out.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Truthfully, I wouldn’t change anything. Art has introduced me to a lot of incredible people. I’m so thankful for the people I’ve met and the memories I’ve made along the way.
