Today we’d like to introduce you to Gilberto Baca.
Gilberto, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I learned to upholster by working with my aunt for three years. I then went to work for an office furniture company in northeast Houston. My wife and I started the company around 1988, like many other entrepreneurs, we got started by working full-time during the day and independent jobs out of our garage in the evenings and on weekends.
By doing high-quality work at a reasonable price, news traveled by word of mouth, and I slowly built my clientele sufficiently to do upholstery full-time. By 1995, we had outgrown our garage and moved the company to our current location at Champions Business Park in northwest Houston.
Over the years, my business has grown to include four employees plus myself, and I’m looking forward to what the future has in store for us.
Has it been a smooth road?
Some of the struggles we have encountered along the way have been tied to the seasonal nature of our business. Keeping the business going in the slow season while keeping up with the work during the busy season.

We specialize in handcrafted custom upholstery. We are proud of the happiness we bring to our clients by restoring their family heirlooms. The attention to detail, the quality of our workmanship and customer rapport is what sets us apart from others.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The diversity. Houston being a melting pot of cultures, we get to see furniture from all over the world. I love everything about our city, but if I had to choose something, it would be the traffic. It can cause delays when delivering the finished products to our customers.
At the end of the day, we will drive anywhere, no matter how long it takes, to make our customers happy.
