Today we’d like to introduce you to Quinn the Brain.
Quinn the Brain, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Our story is pretty simple. We’re three people that love music and were lucky enough to find each other in the most unlikely ways. Arta Salehi (guitar/vocals) and Billy Kimmel (drums) met at a mutual friend’s apartment when she went over to buy an old 8 track, and he was playing video games on the couch. Jacob Detiveaux (bass) was found through the internet. What we’re skipping over is all the other bands and members that we all went through to finally get to this point. It’s all about chemistry. You have to click. And it wasn’t until Jacob joined the band that we finally felt that aha moment. We all have different tastes in music, and it’s that variety of influences that makes our music unique. We’re just happy to be playing really. It’s great to be in a band that has fun on and off stage.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
We create music of the rock persuasion. Now ask us what we sound like, and we’ll all tell you something different. We have a hard time placing ourselves in a box. Some people call us post-punk or alt-rock or grunge. We’ll take it all. We don’t care what people call us as long as we get called to play. Our music is dark, heavy at times and full of rage.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
The key ingredients to success is motivation and hard work. You have to really want it. We all work full-time day jobs so having a full-time band can be difficult. We get out of work and instead of just relaxing we go straight into work again. But this time it’s something we all love to do so we push through. Success is getting to where you want to be. Just like anything else in life, we set goals, and we try to achieve them. We’re still figuring out stuff for ourselves, but it’s all trial and error. Eventually things work out.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
