Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Manning.
Gabrielle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started doing hair when I was just a teen. My mother and aunt are both hairdressers. I use to run around a salon as a child. I did cosmetology at College of the Mainland and graduated August 10th of 2012. I worked for multiple salons from chain salons to high end salons. In 2017, I decided to take the chance every stylist will eventually make once building a loyal and dependent clientele. I became self-employed. On August 14, 2018, I opened my salon in Tuscany Village Salons Suite 20 in Texas City. I named it Hometown Roots. Why? Well, because my clients are home when they come to see me for all there needs when it comes to their hair. This year has been one of the best years for me. Owner of Hometown Roots and I’ve had a very successful year.
Has it been a smooth road?
When I first started off as a stylist, I was a little more experience than someone that just went to cosmetology school. I knew more than just the basics. My instructors in college told me that I would do great at a high-end salon straight out of school. I ended up working at a Supercuts for two years to master my men’s cuts. I also did women’s cuts, color, and styles. There, I built a lot of my amazing clientele that is still with me today. I’ve jumped around three other times to higher end salons. I can honestly say that being a self-employed hairstylist is the best thing that ever happened to me. I make so much more money, and I get to make my own schedule. I have three beautiful kids and an amazing husband that get my full attention now because I don’t have to ask anyone for time off.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hometown Roots – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Hometown Roots is a second home for my clients to come and relax and get their hair done. I specialize in balayage, color techniques, hair cutting, styling, special occasion updos, straightening, perms, men’s cuts, and kid cuts. I also stay up to date on my education. Taking classes and attending hair shows to become better and to stay up to date with certain trends. I’m very proud of the business that I call mine. My clients come to me because they love the environment, my work, and they love me. I don’t think I could ever wish for more at the moment.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love everything about where I’m from. The people are nice and welcoming. I try to help out with my community as much as I can. I also was a stylist that dedicated my time to the Santa Fe seniors during graduation for the tragedy that happened in May. I honestly couldn’t say anything bad about my community.
