Check out Kelsey Horner’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Horner.

Kelsey, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up in the Woodlands area and went to college in Huntsville at Sam Houston. I met my husband in 2014 and for Christmas 2015, he bought me my first camera. I had always played with my dad’s DSLR growing up but never really knew what I was doing. I just knew that it was a nice big camera and I thought I looked cool carrying it around – ha! With a little push from family and friends, I started getting serious about my photography in 2016. Photo sessions started with family members and quickly grew to friends, friends of friends, and beyond that. I photographed my first wedding in May 2017 and from then, I was hooked. I loved everything about it. The emotions on the day of, getting to know the bride and groom on a personal level and leaving the wedding day with two (or more) new friends. To be a part of the emotion, to feel a portion of what they feel, there’s nothing better for me.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I want to create a story with our time together. I want to give my couples a piece of their day broken into moments that they can literally feel when they look at the photos. I want people to know that through my photography, I get to know you because I want to know you. I want to know your story, your passions, your plans – I want to know all of it. I want you to know I’m on your team and I’m here to create memories with you that you’ll have for years to come because of the time we have spent together. I want my clients to know that through my art, I’m giving them a piece of myself. That’s why I feel different – I feel different than photographers I’ve worked with or photographers my family has worked with. I didn’t feel a sense of emotion or connection with them. I want that connection with my couples – it’s the best feeling ever.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I think that it takes passion. A lot of it. You have to be passionate about your work or you won’t be able to reach or connect with your audience. Get to know your art and get to know the people that appreciate your art and they will start to appreciate you. With passion comes pride and I have never been more proud of myself and my art than I am today. I hope that tomorrow I am more passionate and in-turn more proud of how far my business has come and that the cycle of being better than you were the day before never breaks.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Instagram is where I share the majority of my day to day and the lives of my clients. People can support my work by following along, supporting with words, prayers, “likes”, whatever it is – it helps. I’ve met so many amazing people because their twice removed cousin “liked” my photo, so it showed up on their explore feed and they found me. “Likes” don’t matter in regards to the quantity that you get – they matter because it introduces my work to people that may have never seen it because a friend of a friend follows along and you now have stumbled across my page. Social media provides such an incredible platform for small businesses. The more you like and share, the more you are helping that small business survive.
