Meet Truc Pham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Truc Pham.

Truc, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today.
The beauty industry has always been a passion of mine, specifically styling hair. I was not one of those people that went to Cosmetology school right out of high school, although I wish I did. I took a different path for a while, a more practical path, but still doing hair for fun whenever I can. After many years of working the corporate life, I felt unfulfilled and was thinking “what’s next.” When I realized, I didn’t like the “next” part of corporate life, I finally enrolled myself in Cosmetology school.

After Cosmetology school, I worked with a couple of hair salons but I always knew I wanted to eventually own my own salon somehow. I didn’t want to just own a salon, I wanted it to be something different. Since my specialty was bridal hairstyling and makeup… and over the years of going on location to various wedding venues and hotels, I realize there was always something missing at these places. We always hear the same complaints, whether it be not enough space, not enough lighting, no bright, “natural” lighting for makeup applications, or there was an extra charge for using the venues’ bridal suites for more than the allotted time frame. The option of getting a hotel could be costly too. I wanted to offer brides a place to relax with their bride tribes and not have to stress about rushing to get everyone done in a short amount of time. As if all the planning and wedding day stress wasn’t enough already. Since they were booking us for hair and makeup anyway, why not offer them a spacious salon to get ready at no extra cost. With that thought, The Bridal Suite was born.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are essentially a bridal blow dry bar. We offer everyday services such as blowouts and hair styling, but our specialty is hair styling and makeup for special occasions, specifically weddings. Our spacious salon can accommodate a group of 20 girls (and/or guys) comfortably. We built out our salon with brides and their squads in mind. It’s a relaxing atmosphere for bridal parties to come and get primped and pampered before the big event! We offer champagne for every bridal party and they are welcome to bring in food and other beverages as well. In addition, we have had brides bring in their photographer to take “getting ready photos” and there is ample space for everyone to change into their gowns/bridesmaids dresses before heading out to the venue. Did we mention we have a whole room dedicated to taking photos/selfies?! Who doesn’t love a good selfie?! We will also do on location services if needed. When the salon is not used for bridal parties, it can be converted to host workshops and intimate gatherings such as networking events. It’s such a versatile space and we love using it to connect with other businesses in the community to help each other grow!

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
It is definitely harder these days because of the saturation, not just with artists, but with any type of business in large cities like Houston. With that said, there are also so many opportunities to be seized. Everyone has to start somewhere so it’s important to allow smaller businesses a chance to grow and not be judged after just one service or meeting. However, that’s not to say you shouldn’t give feedback. Feedback is what helps us grow and be better. Also, sharing and referring our work to show support goes a long way!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work?
We are centrally located on Waugh Dr. with visibility to the bat colony and Buffalo Bayou. It’s such a beautiful, scenic area. Visit us any time! Our work can be viewed on our website or Instagram page.
