Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Oxner.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In June of 1997 was born up in a suburb outside of Toledo, Ohio called Maumee. We moved to Austin in 1999 where I grew up the youngest sibling and only boy in my family. My sisters (9 and 11 years older than I am) were very involved with dance and marching band throughout high school in Austin.
The city known for great live music is also historically known for having incredible music programs, and theirs was no exception. Going to marching band competitions grew my appreciation for different types of music and the idea of composing a major piece of work. That bug stuck with me, and eventually, I also joined marching band when I was old enough and was a member of Vandegrift High School’s drum line. We were pretty decent for the time, but with years the talent has only continued to get better.
My former drum teacher Paul Pape really focused on the way the different ways you play an instrument can evoke varying sensations and emotions for your listener. That principle is something I’ve always kept in mind when making music. After high school, I hung out in Austin for about a year and a half in the “Live Music Capital” of the world creating what felt like a real-life cinema with some of the most memorable people of my life before eventually feeling trapped in the city, and was seeking a change of scenery. Miraculously, it landed me in Museum District in August of 2016.
I spent my first year or so going to different raves and then transitioned to attending clubs where I saw so many young musical artists with much higher talent and enthusiasm than I’d seen even back in Austin. The amount of diversity and love for culture in Houston sparked my love for playing and making music again for the first time since high school, and since June of 2018 have been producing and recording with multiple artists in preparation for a truly rocking 2019.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smoother than I would’ve imagined. I believe the universe has the right doors open for everyone if they have their eyes open.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the OXGEN story. Tell us more about the business.
In my Music Production Studio, I really like to make all guests feel comfortable and welcome. Music can be a personal or social event, and I feel like everyone should be fully included.
I feel like my classroom musical experience coupled with remembering what it was like to first start learning music gives me an upper hand when working with all levels of musical talent.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is random and sweet. Seemingly inexplicable in my life. I consider myself incredibly lucky for multiple reasons, especially being alive in the time we are alive. Content is easier than ever to release and get in front of people, and that’s very exciting for me.
