Today we’d like to introduce you to Ezla Lewis.
Ezla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to Houston about three and a half years ago from Yokosuka Japan. My first retail job was Hollister, and I fell in love with the whole concept of fashion retail. From retail operations to design, I just fell in love with how fashion moved. After my third shift working at Hollister, I was folding jeans, and I told my self “wow I want to have my own company.”
So I created the name Palacose and studied everything non stop I needed to know on how to create a company. I wanted to debut in the fashion world with a fashion show, so we showcased five t-shirts at the Buffalo Soldier Museum, 26 people came, not many but I was so happy people even showed up to appreciate and understand my vision.
I really had no idea what I was doing, but I just did it. I had a vision, and I executed it. I loved every moment of it, from there I just kept going and going. Still learning and working, my goals with fashion are HUGE, I have a lot more to accomplish. But I truly appreciate everything I’ve done so far.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
So smooth. I don’t really believe in struggles it’s more like lessons or experiences. I’m too positive to think of anything as struggles. I thrive off every situation because they help better my mental.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Palacose – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Palacose was purely created for me to express good fashion aesthetic through positivity, creativity, and belief. While at the same time giving opportunities to people around me who want to be in the industry.
I practically do almost everything for the company but I like calling myself the head of product and design, so I come up with the ideal “concept” of collections I want the company to produce, plan activations to make our product relevant to consumers, and then everything else. Specifically, I specialize in making sure the company runs like a clothing company haha.
I honestly think I’m known for my energy and Palacose. I’m most proud of the fact that the company grows everyday, to be honest. When I make a home office in Houston, that’ll be my most proud moment. But as of right now… I’m proud of everything.
Our aesthetic and drive are super different, the way we execute collections, lookbooks, social media, and our motto. Like we really do our best to promote those three factors (positivity, creativity, and belief) in the most natural way, and I see that people enjoy that and it makes me so happy.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Globalizing the brand to a point, we become corporate, so I can build a home office campus like the one Abercrombie has in Columbus.
I want to bring that aspect into Houston, we don’t really have any corporate fashion houses in Houston so the opportunities for fashion aren’t as vast as they should be, so I’m working on making that happen.
Well, we will make that happen. I’m really looking forward to be the most successful fashion retail company to exist.
