Meet Edward Pierre-Paul of EPM Consulting Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Pierre-Paul.

Edward Pierre-Paul began EPM Consulting Group in the spring of 2014 motivated by his desire to begin a different kind of consulting group. As a first-generation Haitian-American, Edward witnessed his mother tirelessly work two jobs, raise him and his three siblings, and study for her Master’s degree as a nurse practitioner while Edward’s father ignited his love of Haitian music. Edward studied Management of Musical Enterprises at Baruch College, The City University of New York, but was already formulating lasting relationships with musicians and entertainers in and around the New York area.

Inspired by his mother’s work ethic, his father’s musical passion, as well as his own eagerness to achieve the highest level of excellence, Edward endeavored to create a unique kind of entertainment consulting firm. His desire was to build the type of firm in which the client’s aspirations were as valuable as the firm’s — a firm dedicated to Excellence, Prestige, and Mentoring. The result was EPM Consulting Group.

Today, Edward is enthusiastic about building fruitful and long-lasting relationships with each of his distinct clients through EPM. He cheerfully lends his time and love to charity organizations; having worked with the Global Medical Brigade, Room to Read, and the Syrian Refugee Relief (in collaboration with American Red Cross). As the President and Founder of EPM Consulting Group, Edward proudly acknowledges EPM’s ability to execute excellence in every situation, from management to fundraisers to charity events to concerts. However, his chief concern still remains the same, his client’s infinite success.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but I embrace every lesson that I can learn from the bumps in the road. From 2005 – 2008, I was apart of an organization right into college that I believed would be very successful. It was the first time I gained true entrepreneurial experience in both the event planning and real estate industries.

Unfortunately, due to the U.S. housing crisis in 2008, the business failed to withstand the collapse, and I lost many friendships and became financially in debt. It took time to regain stability and to reposition myself as an entrepreneur. I interned and worked for many companies such as the New Music Seminar where I was the festival coordinator for three years – 2012 – 2015.

With the gained experience, I had been applying to numerous positions within entertainment companies such as Sony Music, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, et al. After self-realization, I understood that I had both the knowledge and skillset to work for these specifics entities and decided to take the initiative and start my own company.

I started EPM Consulting Group in 2014; owning your own business is like raising a child. It takes time and it takes patience. I learned working with friends is not always a good thing; not everyone is mentally capable to withstand certain pressures and high risks. However, connecting the right personalities and skill sets can make a dream become a reality. At the end of the day, determination and strength hold it all together.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I love family events – birthdays, graduations, communions, BBQs – you name it, I’m there! When I was younger, I remember going to my cousin’s house for a bbq, and we all would gather in the basement and start dancing to Haitian music. Man do we love us some Kompa! Dancing with one another in big groups or as dance couples; Laughing and singing at the top of our lungs! We still do the same thing to this day!
