Today we’d like to introduce you to Fawn Dellit.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Fawn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve worked in flower shops of all types since graduating college. I quickly learned from working in these shops that the wedding part of the industry was my favorite. My husband works in Oil and Gas and was transferred to Houston in 2012. I was pregnant with my first child at the time so decided it would be best to start my own company in hopes of having a flexible schedule and being able to stay home with my daughter. I knew I didn’t want a traditional flower shop that had to be open and staffed every day. I had this dream to just do weddings. I also didn’t want the overhead cost of a location and felt I could do weddings out of my house. I had no clue at the time how fast the company would take off and grow. We now have a studio space, are doing more than 70 weddings and events a year and have two full-time employees and two part-time employees.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m pretty lucky and can say it has been a pretty smooth road. I would be lying if I said there weren’t struggles along the way. I think with any growing company there are struggles along the way, its all part of growing. My advice to anyone wanting to start the journey into business ownership would be to get lots of experience first. I owe a lot of my success to working in those small flower shops before starting my company. I learned so much about what I wanted to do, what worked and what didn’t work. I also learned a ton about the industry and how to navigate thru it.
What should we know about F. Dellit Designs LLC? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are an event and wedding florist. We specialize in wedding flowers. We do more than 70 weddings and events a year. We are known for our garden style designs and natural look. We work closely with our clients to ensure their wedding flowers are exactly what they dreamt of. We want to take all the stress away from them on their wedding day so they can just enjoy the day and soak up all the memories.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
There are so many powerful women business owners in the wedding industry. It’s so inspiring to work with and be around so many confident and successful women. I don’t think occupational positions need to be gender-defined. The best employees for any job are skilled, passionate and hard working. That could be either male or female.
