An Inspired Chat with Chef Sharon Harper of Midtown 3rd Ward

Chef Sharon Harper shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Sharon, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I am an early riser. My first 90 minutes of everyday start at 5:00am. I awake and give gratitude to see another day.
I sit on my yoga pad in silence and set my intentions for the day. I begin to stretch my limbs and be present. I then shower, get dressed, make a cup of hibiscus tea and then start my day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Peace and Wholeness!
My name is Sharon but I prefer Chef Amenet! I am a Plant Base Pastry Chef. have been a Plant based eater for over 20 years.
I am the owner of
Amenet Re’z Green Lotus Plant based and Vegan pastries.
This business came into fruition while in Pastry Arts Class in 2019 (Graduating Class of 2023). I wanted to create something my father could eat that was more on the healthier spectrum. He had health issues so I created my own recipes with the ok of my instructors. My father was able to enjoy everything I created. I was still allowed to get the grade in class doing a plant base or vegan spin on their class recipes. The unique thing about my pastries is that they don’t taste plant base or vegan.
They are created from a place of love for my father and his well being. Now I am sharing them with the world.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped how I see myself today is the one I have with myself. We are constant works in progress. I have beat many odds to stand where I am today. I am taking time out for myself and being intentional about what I want, need and deserve. All of that is because I see myself in a whole new light with reinventing and reconnecting with self.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
In Febuary of 2023 I lost my daughter at the age of 34. To say I was devastated is a understatement. I was still in school and working my business until I couldn’t get out of bed. The pain of this loss paralyzed me. I became numb and moving on auto pilot.. My daughter came to me in a dream and set me straight. I got up and processed the pain, gave it a voice and turned it into power. Everyday in that moment I got up for her (Keona C Jones). Today I get up for all the possibilities the day will bring for me. I am beyond grateful to be in this moment in time. It still hurts but I understand what we both desire for me.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! I am a bit introverted and nerdy. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m baking, reading and meditating.
