We recently had the chance to connect with Crystal Nwagwu and have shared our conversation below.
Crystal , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think a lot of people misunderstand rage rooms as just a place for angry people. While that’s partly true, most of our customers actually come to have fun—whether it’s celebrating a milestone, trying something new, or doing a team-building activity.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Crystal, and I’m the owner of Maximum Rage—a rage room located in Humble, Texas.
I started Maximum Rage with the idea of giving people a fun, healthy way to relieve stress or explore an alternative form of therapy. To my surprise, our customer base has been much more diverse than I expected.
The satisfaction people feel after a session—whether they come alone or with friends—is truly unmatched. We’re often taught not to break things or to always keep our emotions in check, but at Maximum Rage, we offer a space where you can let loose without guilt.
By actively moving your body and releasing that built-up tension, you’re not just breaking stuff—you’re breaking free from stress.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Broken trust damages bonds, but love has the power to heal them. That love doesn’t always have to be for the other person—it can, and often should, start with love for yourself.
After trust is broken, we often carry anger and resentment toward others. But over time, we start to see how those feelings weigh us down—how they affect the way we see the world, how we interact with others, and how we show up in our own lives.
Healing begins when we choose to let go of that pain and start pouring love into ourselves. It’s through that self-love that we can begin to truly heal and create a more fulfilling, peaceful life.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me perseverance. I often remind myself that pain doesn’t last forever, and I try to focus on the lesson in each season of life.
I see suffering as preparation for the next level—but paying attention to the lesson it brings is key. Reflecting on what we’ve learned through difficult times helps us grow. While it’s true that anyone can enjoy success without going through deep struggles, I believe suffering brings a deeper sense of contentment and helps keep us grounded.
Success isn’t permanent, and neither is suffering. Learning to grow through pain allows us to truly appreciate what we’ve worked for. In many ways, I feel that suffering is a prerequisite for appreciating success. The two often go hand in hand—you can’t fully embrace one without understanding the other.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire my husband for his work ethic, integrity, and tenacity. His dedication is truly unmatched—he’s persistent, consistent, and always shows up. Watching him pushes me to grow and inspires me to be better every day.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I will never regret treating people with kindness. Often, people just want to be seen and acknowledged for their efforts. It’s so important to treat others the way we want to be treated—with kindness, support, and gentleness.
