We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dee Deveraux . Check out our conversation below.
Dee , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Who are you learning from right now?
Right now, I’m learning from women who have broken barriers in the beauty industry, such as Madam C.J. Walker, who built an empire that empowered for Black women through beauty, Pat McGrath, whose artistry has redefined global makeup standards. I’m also inspired by innovators such as Danessa Myricks, a self-taught artist who built her own brand and proved that creativity and perseverance can open doors. Alongside, women like Beverly Johnson and Iman who broke barriers in representation and Huda Kattan broke barriers in digital entrepreneurship. Of course with a few other honorable mentions such as Jackie Aina, Rihanna and many more who continue to encourage authenticity and inclusivity, reminding me to embrace myself and use my platform to uplift others.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dee Deveraux, and I am a professional makeup artist and the founder of Maison Deveraux Beauty. I’ve been in the beauty industry for over five years, and from the very beginning, I’ve had a passion not only for makeup itself but for the way beauty can transform how people feel. My goal has always been to make every client who sits in my chair feel just as beautiful and confident as they look.
Maison Deveraux Beauty represents more than makeup — it’s about beauty, elegance, confidence, and artistry. What makes my brand unique is that we are not just providing services; we’re also here to educate, influence, and inspire upcoming artists who are passionate about building their own path in this industry.
Currently, I’m working on expanding our services and cosmetics line to reach even more people. Our services include makeup courses, bridal makeup, male grooming, photoshoot and music video glam, commercial work, and more. The vision behind Maison Deveraux Beauty is to continue pushing boundaries, empowering others, and creating an experience that leaves a lasting impression.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My family, especially my Father, Youngest brother,& Grandmother, they saw me clearly before I could fully see myself. For a long time, I had aspirations of becoming a Cosmetic Dentist so I could help serve individuals and make them feel better about themselves around the world. However, my father always noticed something deeper in me — my natural talent, passion, and eye for art and beauty. Whether I was putting together outfits, experimenting with makeup, or styling my own hair, he recognized that creativity was more than just a hobby for me. He would always remind me, ‘Although you’re a very intelligent girl and have other academic aspirations, never neglect your talent, because it is your gift, and it will take you very far if you continue to nurture it’. His belief in me helped me embrace my path in the beauty industry and fueled my confidence to turn my passion into purpose.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me lessons that success never could — resilience, patience, and the value of perseverance. As a makeup artist and entrepreneur, there were moments when resources were limited, clients were hard to come by, or self-doubt crept in. Those challenges forced me to dig deep, trust my vision, and refine my craft even when progress felt slow. I also learned empathy, understanding that everyone carries their own struggles, which helps me connect more deeply with my clients and team. Success celebrates the outcome, but it’s the trials and obstacles that shaped my character, strengthened my passion, and taught me how to build Maison Deveraux Beauty into a brand that not only creates beauty but inspires confidence and empowerment
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
The ideas I rely on most that aren’t my own, but they come from God. Throughout my entrepreneurial journey with Maison Deveraux Beauty, I’ve leaned on Him for guidance, wisdom, and clarity. Every decision, every challenge, and every step forward has been rooted in prayer and faith. While I bring my creativity and passion to my work, it’s His direction that shapes the vision and purpose of my brand.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely. I give 100% to everything I do because my commitment goes beyond recognition — it’s about serving my purpose and leaving a meaningful legacy for my family and generations to come. Whether it’s building my brand, creating art, or mentoring others, my focus is on the impact and the example I set, not on external praise. True fulfillment comes from knowing I’ve stayed dedicated, authentic, and purposeful in all that I do.
