An Inspired Chat with Joe Treviño of Mont Belvieu

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Joe Treviño. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Joe, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
As small business owners, one of the blessings we truly value is having the ability to design the flow of our workday. The first 90 minutes always begin with a cup of coffee and prayer, which centers us and sets the right tone for the day. From there, we move into a focused discussion about our business—reviewing priorities, goals, and upcoming projects. It’s a steady foundation that ensures we start with clarity and gratitude. We’re thankful that we don’t have to begin the day in a rush, but instead with reflection and purpose.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Joe Trevino, and together with my wife Vanessa, I co-own Advanced Outdoor Living Enhancements (AOLE) in Mont Belvieu, Texas. What began over 20 years ago as Advanced Solar Screens has now grown and rebranded into AOLE, serving the greater Houston area. We’re proud to be a husband-and-wife team, and it’s especially meaningful that our daughter Makayla is also stepping into the business, making this a true family legacy.

At AOLE, our passion is creating and enhancing outdoor living spaces—screen rooms, pergolas, patio covers, and more—that bring families together. We believe these spaces are where memories are made, and we take pride in delivering craftsmanship that not only improves a home but creates a place for connection, celebration, and everyday enjoyment. Being family-owned means every project matters to us personally, and that’s the standard we bring to every customer we serve.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
The person who taught me the most about work was my father. He was an entrepreneur who owned his own landscaping company, and I watched him take great pride in everything he did. His attention to detail, his strong work ethic, and his ability to save and manage wisely left a lasting impression on me. What stood out most was the loyalty of his clients—many of them stayed with him for decades. That kind of respect and trust doesn’t come easily; it comes from consistency, integrity, and pride in your craft. Those lessons shaped how I approach my own business today.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me something success never could—that the biggest battles in life are often within yourself. In my younger years, it was easier to blame others or my circumstances, but facing the consequences of my mistakes forced me to look inward. Those struggles taught me honesty, humility, and accountability. Success can feel good, but suffering is what shaped my character and pushed me to grow into the man I wanted to become.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what matters most to me is my faith and my relationship with Jesus Christ. It’s at the center of everything I do, both personally and in business. I’ve often had long conversations with customers where faith naturally became part of the discussion, and many times I’ve even had the privilege of praying with them. That’s one of the things I value most about running my own business—I have the freedom to share my faith openly and authentically. It’s not just what I do; it’s who I am.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I only had 10 years to live, I would stop watching television. I’d rather be intentional with my time and spend it on the things that truly matter—investing in my faith, being present with my family, and making lasting memories with the people I love.
