An Inspired Chat with Magan Brown

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Magan Brown. Check out our conversation below.

Magan, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I’ve been getting back into the gym, and it’s already made a big difference in my energy and mindset. Just like in business, consistency pays off — and this has been a great reminder to keep showing up for myself, too.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Magan Brown, and I’m the owner of Brown Servicing — a company dedicated to supporting tax professionals and business owners through education, strategy, and service. What makes Brown Servicing special is that we don’t just focus on tax preparation — we focus on helping professionals build confidence, structure, and long-term success in their businesses.

My journey started with a passion for helping others understand the business side of taxes and entrepreneurship. Over the years, that passion has grown into a full-service brand that offers not only tax support, but also training, business formation services, and digital resources designed to help others elevate their practice.

Right now, I’m excited about expanding our educational side — from our Tax Masterclass to new digital tools and marketing resources that empower tax professionals to grow their client base and operate with excellence. Brown Servicing is all about growth, consistency, and community — helping others win while continuing to evolve ourselves.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Growing up in a small town as a young Black girl, I used to believe I had to be perfect to be successful, seen or taken seriously — that every move had to be right, and every plan had to be in place before I could start. Over time, I’ve learned that perfection isn’t the goal — growth is. I carried that pressure for a long time — feeling like I always had to prove myself. But as I grew and built my business, I realized that my value was never tied to perfection — it’s tied to purpose. I no longer chase validation; I stand in who I am, knowing that my authenticity and excellence speak for themselves. That’s the mindset I bring into Brown Servicing and the message I share with others — you don’t have to shrink or overperform to be enough. I’ve learned that it’s okay to make mistakes, to learn as you go, and to trust that your path will unfold the way it’s meant to. Letting go of that pressure has allowed me to show up more authentically — in life, in business, and in how I lead Brown Servicing.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was a time I almost gave up — a time that still feels vivid when I think about it. I had poured my heart into a storefront business, dreaming of building something that was truly my own. But as a single mom, reality hit hard, and I had to make the gut-wrenching decision to close it and return to corporate work to provide for my children. Still, I refused to let go of my passion. Late nights, after my kids were asleep, I continued doing taxes on the side, holding on to the dream I knew was bigger than any setback.

Those years tested me in ways I never imagined — the doubt, the exhaustion, the fear of failure — but they also taught me resilience, patience, and the power of persistence. I wanted my children to see that even when life forces you to pivot, your dreams don’t have to die — you just find a new way forward. That journey didn’t just shape me; it became the foundation of Brown Servicing. Every day, it reminds me that success isn’t about avoiding struggles — it’s about how you rise, adapt, and keep moving toward what truly matters. The mission I carry every day: to help others grow, thrive, and keep going, no matter what obstacles come their way.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
For me, the public version and the real version are one and the same. What you see is truly who I am — a woman who has worked hard, learned through experience, and continues to grow. I’ve learned that authenticity is the foundation of connection. People can tell when you’re being real, and that’s something I never want to lose.

Of course, as a business owner, I carry myself professionally and with intention, but the heart behind Brown Servicing — the passion, the faith, the desire to see others win — that’s all me. I’m transparent about my journey because I want people to see that you can be both polished and human, successful and still learning. That’s the balance I live by — showing up as my true self, whether it’s behind the desk, in front of clients, or out in the world.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
If I laid down my name, my role, and everything I own, what would remain is my faith, my character, and my purpose. Those are the things that can’t be taken away or defined by titles or success. I’ve learned that who you are at the core matters more than anything attached to your name.

At my core, I’m a woman who believes in perseverance, service, and growth. I’m a mother who’s learned how to turn challenges into lessons and pain into purpose. And I’m someone who truly wants to see others win — not just in business, but in life. That’s the part of me that will always remain, no matter what.
