Art & Life with Desmond Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desmond Jackson.

Desmond, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My story is a simple but complicated I’m from small town in Louisiana named Winnfield. I come from a small family. Growing up with not much to do led me to the world of art, being able to escape the dullness of Louisiana life by creating my own was incredible to me as a child. I would stay in my room watching anime and cartoons and drawing until I fell asleep. I took art classes from 5th to 8th grade, then came high school which was not a great time for art for me. I didn’t sign up for art I had got more into trying to get girls and playing football. I only doodled randomly until the summer of 2016 I was going through a depression and didn’t know how to escape it so I started back drawing from there I just kept trying to improve myself so I went to colored pencils, then markers, then painting and from there I started entering art shows and now I’m here lol

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Well my art could be anything I’m very random with my art because there just random ideas that pop into my head I feel like that’s the best way I can keep my mind refreshed if I get some of the old things out and on canvas then new ones will have room to blossom and my message is that don’t let anybody kill your dopness we tend to let society put us in a box and that’s fine as long as you’re still an individual inside and that box is dope as f**k

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
Merch Merch Merch lol nah but for real the best way to stay afloat is merchandising T-shirts, bracelets, prints, etc. whatever you can the more merch the better because some people that don’t sell their canvases sometimes gets discouraged and will ultimately give up from the feeling of being unappreciated or overlooked

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Well I do a lot of art shows in different places if they wanted to see me in person Dallas, Austin, Houston, Atlanta, New Orleans, Chicago, but if they can’t make it too one I post all my work on my Instagram page (@__koolwill) or visit my website www.trapartstarz.com.
