Art & Life with Justin Riner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Riner.

Justin, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I have been passionate about music from a very early age and always had an interest in learning to play various instruments. My dad used to play acoustic guitar when I was young which led me to discover that I could learn to play songs fairly fast. When I was 14-15 my dad got me my first peavey guitar which was followed by a Schecter C1 Elite when I was 16. I knew that I was addicted for life once I started learning more and more guitar solos for metal songs, I was interested in. From there my knowledge of music theory developed slowly into what it has become today. I always knew I would play an instrument because no other interest gives me that satisfaction

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I create music that is an expression of the various types of techniques I am developing. I write music as a way to improve my own skills so that I get more and more used to creating rewarding tracks in a short amount of time. I like to play many styles across many instruments so that I keep developing my composition skills from a theoretical standpoint instead of blindly writing riffs until I find something that sounds good together.

In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
The biggest challenge facing artists is the difficulty of being original and creative as more and more material is released. It slowly gets harder and harder to have your own unique style as so many artists release material using the same scales/modes/tunings. I am always on the prowl for discovering new guitar techniques that can help diversify my compositions.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
